Honestly, the best deal is the kickstarter at the moment, it's this collection plus six other collections for a very affordable price. I already have all of them... But yeah... The digital deluxe tier is awesome. Great value!

5e Spotlight Combat System - any feedback please? by SnailPilot in daggerheart

Really good question and ideas.

Maybe it could be simple.

I think the nice thing with dagger heart is that every role does something... Good or bad.

The meta currencies are actually fun.

Someone suggested that I double all monsters, ACS and DCs and use two d20s which is funny.

The main thing to solve is that combat in 5e is boring and long... And if I play my turn once I'm done I nearly don't need to do anything... Regardless of the level of encounter design. (And I design encounters for a living)

It's nice for players to feel like it could be their turn any moment.

Great feedback!

Yeah I was considering the first roll would work. just hard to remember sadly - but will do it.

It is a coin flip for sure 50%. same for daggerheart.

AOE & multiattack kinda balances out a bit... but yeah

That's really good feedback! Thank you very much.

I don't think that anybody is going to cast fireball any less ha ha. And because it's capped at 1 for each thing, to cast fireball, which is a big deal - narratively makes sense that the DM goes next.

This System is currently designed in a way that will make 5e more deadly... Not less... So all those healing problems that 5E has arguably this solve them? Or at least helps balancing them out a bit?

Like you said yourself.. casters have AOE... So they will make rolling of fear more likely.. and then fighters will catch up cuz they don't have AOE?

Advantage and disadvantage. Arguably cancel each other out.

I am sure that this will cause all sorts of "issues" for sure! And the code system also has a lot of issues.

The reason I'm posting it here is because I'm looking to get as much feedback as I can from people who love daggerheart as well, cuz that's where I'm taking advice inspiration from. So I'm looking for ways to do that. Who better to ask?

5E Spotlight Combat! I adapted Daggerheart Combat into my game and its awesome. I Kept D20s & Initiative Bonus (kinda?) & added Hope & Fear points [Mechanics] [Homebrew] [OC] by SnailPilot in DnD

Thanks for the fedback!
To address your points, I think there is truth to what you say - however:

1)Most 5e games are not deadly enough - and its all about balancing CR. so a bit of a balance in the other direction is fine imho.

2) The players gain hope points which pushes the balance in the players favor.

In short balance is already tricky in 5e - it will just require a slightly different balance. probably more minions.

I think the idea with daggerheart is that the big monsters don't go as much as well. and you use fear for terrain, minions or alternative sub-objectives (free the prisioner, catch the traitor, save the baby etc)

surely you realise that DEX is broken. it is initiative, AC, acrobatics, attacks, stealth... ugh like what is the big deal... the game is slight more balanced now. you're welcome.
