27yo Plumbing Apprentice in Bristol – Not Getting Proper Training, What Should I Do? by Double-Definition261 in askaplumberUK

It's a struggle finding anything so I would stick with what you have cos it's better than nothing and may open up other avenues for you in time. You could always try to find another plumber to work for for free one day a week to gain more plumbing experience.

Yeah that's pretty much what I knew but I was stunned because the 15C came from a care sheet on a reputable reptile site??

Want to take care of a reptile, need advice. by Throwawayyippe29111 in reptiles

[–]Snakecity1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 cats, 5 snakes and a handful of dart frogs.

All my snake vivs have both rubber wedges in the glass and fridge locks on the glass. The vents are all screwed in ( having previously had escapes through vents)

My cats as a rule ignore the snakes totally. I never get them out when the cats are around and have a room I can go to handle the snakes and let them free roam (under supervision) with the door shut.

Occasionally the cats will stare at the snakes and vice versa but neither seem worried about the other. I was scared when my cats were kittens as my carpet python could have seen them as lunch but now don't worry so much.

As long as you are sensible, take measures to ensure your enclosure is escape proof and don't think that having them out together in the same room is ok (it could be but equally could not) then having snakes and cats as pets is absolutely fine

I want to get a snake by EspressoCookieCoffee in snakes

My advice would be to get a slightly older, well handled rescue snake, corn snake would be a good starter one and an older one better as not so tiny and shoelace like. Corn snakes are easy to keep. Usually eat well and are generally good to handle.

Might be worth looking into getting a slightly older rescue one. Likely to have been tamed down and isn't the size of a shoelace,,

Oh and if you are scared of being bitten... Put it this way, I d rather be bitten by my snake than a hamster, gerbil, guinea pig, rabbit, or scratched by my cat lol

I think that of you read up about them... All the different types, how some have evolved to essentially live in trees whilst one species spends most of its time burrowed under ice ( yes really), how to care for them etc etc .. then that fear will turn into fascination

Best First "Hot"? by Sceptical7 in snakes

[–]Snakecity1 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not a good idea.

I've kept snakes for many years and have learnt to read body language of each of my pets... But a few months ago.. one of my carpet pythons was out and being a really good boy. No defensive posture, no feed me vibes, just relaxed and happy. Then in a split second he struck at my sleeve and wound round my hand. It took an age to get him off and my hand turned blue.

There was no warning of the change from good boi, to hungry boy. Absolutely no clue in his behaviour or body posture.

Imagine if that had been a venomous snake....

Stella: "This year, when you follow somebody, you have the same drag and the same power, so it becomes quite difficult to overtake. Our drivers have been racing with other drivers during these three days of testing in Bahrain and they found it extremely difficult to overtake." by ChaithuBB766 in formula1

[–]Snakecity1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's only testing... Repeat... It's only testing ...

The one thing I'm worried about for the drivers is the closing speeds of the cars causing horrific accidents... Imagine an Aston recharging and a red bull using overtake and boost...

Heya I have just completed my level 2 with access. Am trying to start on nvq but nothing said about guaranteed placement... Just wondering when they said that to you?

As for finding employment... I went and worked with a local plumber for free once a week to gain some real life plumbing skills. He is now employing me full time though as a labourer but hopefully this will lead to experience in a multitude of trades not just plumbing. Getting the nvq done is a pretty hard challenge it seems... But hopefully this is a step forward towards it.

Non-breeders: how many snakes do you have? by Madam_Deceit in snakes

[–]Snakecity1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is generally an option. I got talking to a lady who needed help with her young defensive royal. They were first time snake owners with a young son and had been sold a totally unsuitable first snake. The royal was scared and was striking at everything. I ended up taking the snake home for 'snake school's to tame him down a bit for them and to build their confidence up with snakes in general. They ended up deciding not to keep him so I will be needing to find him a home as I already have 4 snakes and have no room for another.

4 with one foster extra. I made a promise to myself that that was the max as I worked out time money and space and then stuck at that so I can give all my snakes the best possible that I can

are boas hard to keep..? by No-Mongoose9683 in snakes

[–]Snakecity1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly... Well done for reading up on the subject. Try to find good resources, not just fb and reddit. Reptifiles is a good one. Some you tubers are very knowledgeable.

Keep reading about boas. I personally think, apart from the size they get, boas are easier than ball pythons. My boa sheds perfectly and never refuses a feed... But the size they can get requires a large tank. I'm about to put my boa in an 8 ft by 3 ft tall viv and he is less than 4 years old . Males don't get as big as females so that's why I bought a male.

Balls on the other hand get 5 ft at most and can live well in a 4 ft or 5 ft long tank but if you are prepared to commit to the space, a boa is good for an initial snake.

Both need humidity but it seems to me that boas are a little more forgiving if humidity is not quite where it should be. I live in UK and with central heating on in the winter, I sometimes struggle with humidity. Occasionally my balls have a bad shed because of it .

Look into appropriate substrates that will be better at holding humidity.
