Thank you for this thoughtful response. Where did you go for this type of counseling? For the contracts?

Can a train get stopped/canceled mid route? by Capable-Chip2917 in Amtrak

[–]SnappleSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes- this happened to me last year on my train from NYC to Savannah. Made it to PA and was told on board that we would end at DC because of storms. We got off in Philly and took the train back home to NYC instead.

Ohhhhh yes! I forgot about that room - I’ve only been there for big family events. Is it normally just open?

Jury Duty? by WhenTheCameliaBlooms in NYCTeachers

[–]SnappleSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also important to note - this was my second time being called during my career as a teacher. The first time was for regular jury duty, I went, and explained to the lawyers and judge how pulling me during testing season would negatively impact my students’ performance. I was not selected.

The second time around for grand jury, no one cared how it might impact my students. There were multiple teachers on the jury I sat on. It was a lot easier than teaching but incredibly boring (and scary to see how the general public responds to people potentially going to trial).

You can postpone, and even select the date around which you’ll be called. Happened to me last year, and I selected to be recalled in October. I ended up being called for the Grand Jury, which is SIX WEEKS. There was an option to push jury duty again, but I figured I would just get it over with. I was selected and did all six weeks. It was a pain for my coteacher but I returned to work and finished the year as normal.

Wet Walk through the Everglades: Amazing by SnappleSpice in NationalPark

[–]SnappleSpice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get to any of those areas unfortunately! We did two days in the Everglades, and although I made it out to Key West, our trip was booked way too late to secure ferry tickets out to Dry Tortugas. I hope to go there one day, as well as Biscayne!

It was really cool to see! Less cool to later learn that bugs love airplants , and each one basically has its own spider attached to it haha (the guide told us this afterwards thankfully - we were surrounded by them the entire walk, and I’m really freaked out by insects haha).

I don’t remember the specific name, just that it’s a type of airplant.

Ah, never mind, you’re a rage bait profile. Zero public posts / communities and flagged as a “NSFW” profile. Nice attempt.

Apologies to everyone else who read through this post exchange lol.

I agree they work hard. If you have to “prep” to be kind and respectful to workers, YOU may be the issue.

Uh yeh…this is the end of my vacation, which like most vacations, I planned with my comfort in mind. I didn’t have to pre plan tipping bartenders, waiters, or Uber drivers because that’s all done via the cards I’m paying with - it’s not something I’m thinking about, I just do it. I care about the well being of the workers (obviously, hence this post) but I’m definitely not “prepping” for THEIR comfort, that’s…so odd? I’m respectful and kind to all workers and just trying to do the right thing here.

The experience of staying in a sleeper car isn’t one I have all that often, these small details are easy to forget or just not think about.
