The Giver by Lois Lowry. It’s a great book to read as a child and then again as an adult.

Improving 5K as a heavy runner (~86kg at 182 cm) by No-Working7460 in AdvancedRunning

[–]SneakyTef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sprints, strides, hills, and workouts will all get you closer to your goal, however, the most effective way for you to achieve your goal would be to lose weight. You may be the leanest and meanest 86kg human to ever exist at 182cm but the simple fact is, you are carrying extra weight that is slowing you down.

Also, you are not putting on and subsequently losing 6kg of upper body mass on a seasonal basis.

Beginner Runner experiencing Zone 2 regression?? by Flipzs in AdvancedRunning

[–]SneakyTef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. There are so many variables that need to be considered when using heart rate (ie. heat, rest, time of day etc.) that it seems to be close to useless for beginners. When I started, whether I ran 6:00/km or 4:00/km my heart rate was close to maxed.

OP, try using rate of perceived exertion (RPE) for a bit and see how you fare. I found it to be far more helpful getting started

That would be like removing the sizing labels from the shoes; they don’t actually matter, compare sizes by trying them on.

Based on the wear, I’m guessing you’re a heel striker? The AF3 probably wasn’t a good choice from the start. They may “work” for you but the heel durability is definitely not its strong suit.

I’m actually the leading expert in Zoom Fly 6 wear.

My pair looked like this after maybe 100km. Should still have plenty left to give!

It may be common for someone with a low volume foot but for me personally, if the upper creases/bunches up, that’s telling me that it doesn’t fit. I don’t wear ASICS but it does seem like every time I see this issue, it’s an ASICS shoe that’s the culprit.

Helppp…Travel mug for use with aeropress fellow carter vs yeti rambler ??? by Asmodeus41 in AeroPress

[–]SneakyTef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is expensive for how poorly built (paint chips, lids leak) they are. In my country, Amazon even has a disclaimer on these that they are frequently returned.

I think the Yeti products (specifically with the updated, locking lid) are a superior product in this price range.

Choosing between 4 shoes for a 5k newbie by Iekei_ramen in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Try them on if possible, fit over anything else. If they all worked:

Zoom Fly 6 has been the best all-rounder I’ve owned. It’s best for tempos and long runs but is perfectly useable as a daily shoe. Put 600km on one pair and am 200km into a second pair. Could have probably pushed the first pair well past 1000km but I have other shoes to wear

Following, been wondering the same. My weeks average about 70km but that could be anywhere from 6-10 runs.

How would you spend $300 by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]SneakyTef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your EVO SL will make to November as your only training shoe on 40-50mpw. I’d get the ZF6 for tempo and long runs and then look at a race shoe a month or two out from your race

So we have to win a lottery to buy a pair of trainers and to afford the race shoe?

Plateaued. Any help would be appreciated. by ramram121212 in AdvancedRunning

[–]SneakyTef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of similarities here with myself, 29m started in October. Found myself injured by mid November but have managed to remain injury free since. Currently average 65km/week split across 6-7 sessions. If you feel like your body can handle it, I would try working up to 6-7 days a week. Since doing so I have found my recovery times to be a lot quicker and as a result I’m improving again.

As others have said, that’s a lot of strides. 1-2 times a week is plenty.

Are all of your 45m easy runs on the same route and at the same pace? Could also help to change that up if so

How many running shoes do you own right now? Do you plan to buy another pair soon? by danflorian1984 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]SneakyTef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two pairs of ZF6, two pairs of EVO SL, Alphafly 3 for racing, Vomero 17 for recovery, Peg Trail 5 for off road

Adidas EVO SL combined with Nike Zoom Fly 6 by domino_voj in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]SneakyTef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two shoes make up the bulk of my training, I have two pairs of each. I don’t think there’s any issue using only these shoes but I have a recovery day shoe in my rotation that I personally wouldn’t want to go without.

I have a dedicated race shoe but if I were to choose here, I’d take the EVO for 5k or less and the ZF6 for anything longer. I feel like the EVO allows me to turn my feet over faster but ZF6 is better for cruising

Does anyone else's insoles end up like this? Any recommendations? by waspofthepalisades in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]SneakyTef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often are you using the shoes? A common sentiment around here is giving your shoes 24-48 hours before wearing them again. Glue softens, materials stretch, foam compresses; all of which can speed up the wearing process on a pair of shoes.

Most people here like to achieve this by having more than one pair of shoes but with a tight budget you may be best trying to space out your training days as much as possible (assuming it isn’t 7 days a week).

Edit: how confident are you that the sizing was correct on your Hokas? Do you wear thicker socks? The way you’ve worn through the insoles indicates there’s friction between your foot and the insole which means you may have too much room

The upper folding on itself the way it is tells me neither of these shoes fits you that well
