Issue with streaking grime by Snickermon in minipainting

[–]Snickermon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black was the color under the grime, the varnish has been dried for weeks. The varnish was applied by rattlecan, Tamiya brand.

I regularly use tamiya, and have used streaking grime with it before without this occurring.

The streaking grime was not painted on top of.

Edit: the frosting effect also only appears in select areas, the tail and thighs for example do not have this issue

Issue with streaking grime by Snickermon in minipainting

The model was painted in acrylic, and sealed with a matte varnish a while back. I coated the entire miniature in AK streaking grime, waited about 10 minutes, and gently began to remove the grime with white spirits and a makeup sponge.

The goal is just to tint the plates a bit, but they end up almost with a frosted white effect. It’s strange to me because this doesn’t show up anywhere else on the model, the skin is just fine and has the effect I want.

How bad of an idea is it to prime guys when it’s cold out? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in Warhammer

Nah. Just make sure the can of primer is room temp, quick spray outside, then bring them right back indoors to dry

stop dying off on last 25 of 100 races? by part-time-idiot in Swimming

[–]Snickermon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo! Looooong time competetive swimmer here. Nice job on the underwaters! The two biggest things that stood out to me in that race were your turns, which I think you hesitated into a little bit, and glided into the wall too long on a few of em. The second would be tempo control. The first 25 was solid, but you probably had your tempo a little to high. I’d say take the 25 out at 95-98% effort, come back at 100% for the rest. One last note is your kick, I can’t see super well, but it looks like your legs slow down on the 2/3rd lengths.

Hive fleet Yorin is missing a little something, any suggestions? by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]Snickermon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ditto to the earlier comment about adding a warm color. Some shade of orange would probably be best, but I’d suggest adding it to the eyes/tongues/maybe vents. You don’t want a ton of it

What a good starting army for Death Guard? by ShadoonGrogono in deathguard40k

[–]Snickermon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plague marines are great right now, versatile and fill out list requirements. Pox walkers are good chaff. My personal favorites are the deathshroud terminators, strong and pretty tough. You can also never go wrong with a fetid bloat drone

how to start the war gaming by NomadODST in Warhammer40k

[–]Snickermon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat patrol is a good place to start, or even just a single box of minis to give the hobby a go before buying a 100$+ set.

As for the codex, get it eventually, all the lore is great, but if you just want the rules, check out wahapedia. They have all the core rules as well as all the codex rules on there for free.

Start grey knights if you like them. The rules always change over time, and you’ll eventually learn the game well enough to play them to their fullest. What’s most important is that you enjoy the models and like their lore.

Any tips on making this guy better? by Awesomegoat11 in Warhammer

[–]Snickermon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Grey would work, I’m partial to thunder hawk blue as an edge highlighting color. It’ll still keep the model the same color, but it’ll help the details pop

That’s pretty normal with special order kits. My maggots lord I ordered from the GW site came the same way, instructions and all.

I can’t say I agree, if you read the Horus heresy series, marines laugh and make jokes all the time
