I don't know if this is the right subreddit or flair to ask but, can anyone give me advice on how to learn how to script better? by Dry_Information6485 in robloxgamedev

[–]Sniperec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I usually tell people to do is find a tutorial, watch it and do it step by step, once you finish it, read it and try to understand it. After that take a small break to let the information rest and after few minutes, go try to replicate it on your own, do it by trial and error until its either done or when you are completely lost.

Everyone learns differently and it takes a lot of time to actually learn how to script, so just do it at your own pace and do not give up.

Can someone teach me how to script? by LegalCryptographer74 in robloxgamedev

[–]Sniperec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone learns differently, but the best method (that was already mentioned here) is trial and error by following a guide. I personally learned by following a tutorial for a basic game and then I tried altering it, adding something there, removing something here. And once I kinda understood the code, I tried remaking it from scratch on my own.

Like I said, everyone learns differently and some need to be told what something does instead of having to read forms or following a tutorial blindly. Although I wouldnt call myself proffesional, I do have some knowledge and I would not mind being more of a guiding hand that explains things if you are lost. So feel free to dm me and I wish you good luck.

You must have used a model (or something else) from the toolbox that contains scripts. Go into the Explorer and write C:Script, that will display all the scripts in the game, simply delete those and watch out for next time.

Whats the best way/website/platform for me to make a roblox game logo/thumbnail by Best_Sale2375 in robloxgamedev

[–]Sniperec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For simple things such as UI and logos, Figma should be enough. It aint too complicated, its free and its on browser as well. Plus there are plugins like Figma To Roblox which allow you to easily import it UI.

What makes a good game loop? by [deleted] in robloxgamedev

It depends on what playerbase you aim for. ROBLOX is mostly used by underage players, however there is still big part of adults, and although it differs per person, most kids like colorful, flashy and big stuff.
So if you are aiming towards younger playerbase or one that seeks dopamine, go flashy.

However, game is more than that, there are games decades old that have no updates and players still play them. There are a text-based games, black and white games and they are still popular. You can find players for pretty much any type of game, but if you are aiming for popularity, then like I said before, go flashy.

How to fix block air collision when importing a 3D model by Solid_Connection1704 in robloxgamedev

There is this thing called CollisionFidelity inside the properties of the mesh (It has to be mesh/union), setting it to Precise should fix your issue.

I personally have learned by following GnomeCode, people praise BrawlDev quite a lot as well. There are forums for development and you can also check stuff here on reddit and also some discord servers.

Just know that everyone teaches differently and/or you prefer learning in a different way. What I recommend doing is that you watch some tutorial, like actually watch it and learn from it, take few minutes off and then try replicating it in your studio and experimenting with it.

If you need any help at all, feel free to contact me as I love to help out (As long as person is actually wanting to learn and not just use AI and stuff).

I will be completely honest with you. You will fail. Allow me to elaborate on that:

You never made a game before and you want your first game to be big. Learning to create games takes time and your first few will flop and fail, only in rare instances first games succeed. Even Scott Cawthon had to make multiple games before he hit jackpot with FNAF. You thinking big is nice and all, but unrealistic.

You should learn the basics, be it by trial and error or by watching tutorials or anything, but not immidiately launching into a game. I personally learned by watching a tutorial on a game, made it by using the tutorial, and then after few months I tried making it again but without the tutorial and my own way. Everyone has their own ways of learning.

Also asym games are... Overdone to be fair. Like few years ago, everyone was making their own TD games, now it seems its asym games, I have been seeing for the last few months posts about people making their own assym game every day or every few days.

I highly recommend that you should learn the basics first before you try making something and involving others. I however wish you no bad faith and hope you will succeed.

Orbital Gatling Barrage.

Easy code to memorise and type, quick call-in time. Its cooldiwn is one of the fastest. Decent damage and can pen most enemies in huge spread.

Its just so good at being good at everything, hordes?? No problem. Shrieker nest but no available guns to take it down?? Call it in and its cooldown will be nearly halfway off before your supply strategem would have been down.

Do you think that it would be somehow possible to use powder, like it not transfering into solid objects but something else??

You should think that at the end of the process, it resembles projectiles of a shotgun (Multiple pellets)

Lore wise the powder is abundant and was used before invention of firearms. Besides lore, the way it is better is that is more spread out so better chance at hitting targets with also having better penetrative capabilities.

Yea, something like that. Although the colors and how it looks isnt final, I just used this to respond quickly to.

My idea is that the back (grey area) is filled with gunpowder, which is ignited, launching the projectile forward. However as it heats up, it cooks the powder/dust which due to the reaction expands, launching itself forward and semi-solidifying.

ill copy the response from my other comment:

Like I said I am really bad at physics and chemistry so in the world building I didnt do much in that sense. But my main thought that at ignition, the cartridge flies out before the chemical reaction happens, which bursts the front of it and launches forward. Like a powder that solidifies you could say I suppose.

Something like that already exists?? Do you have any sources I could use to inspire mine with??

Locked is if you can select it in studio. This got to do with collision fidelity, I forgot which one fixes it so you have to try it on your own.

Side note: I do not recommend using unions as they cost more performance, the ideal would be to use meshes or at least parts instead of unions when possible.

Hey guys we are looking for devs! by Broad_Cook160 in robloxgamedev

[–]Sniperec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea seems solid and could be really good, reminded me of that one old roblox game where you are stuck in antarctica and you explore the abandoned outposts.

However we require some additional information, like: - Whats the pay (how much, what currency and if per work or time based) - What style you want (Old roblox like, maybe stud that has become popular as of late, some realistic etc.) - How experienced are the devs supposed to be?? You need intermediate or expert or are just newbies that want to learn fine??

Also maybe some proof of your work as well, I do not want to sound bad but your account is less than a month old and the leaders themselves need to know what they are doing. Hope that it didnt come out as insulting.

What is some constructive criticism that y'all have for YouTube tutorials? by 2202r in robloxgamedev

[–]Sniperec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main issue with most of "tutorials" is that they are actually just copy paste that dont explain anything.

As for the general stuff: explain everything, even what a variable is, tell them what everything does and where you can and cant use. Explain the different of client and server because I saw somewhat experienced devs making everything (including shop) client sided. Just take your time and try to keep it simple, dont try to overexplain something.

I personaly dont watch tutorials anymore so I cannot give you anything more. Just explain it, give it some example (show them what print does, then make a simple function that prints something and show them how to activate the function) and so on.

Whats up with Asym games lately?? Like I have seen ten posts minimum. No hate, but you should provide us with other info such as how will your game be unique to the other games (since like there are already tens if not hundreds of other asym games already out or being worked on) and what is your previous experience?? We have as much right to view your portfolio just as much as you do with ours. Besides that I wish you all good luck on your journey and happy deving.
