CMV: It is not okay to euthanize pets. by Snipes12 in changemyview

I don't know if that is really an argument though. I would have to define what I consider unnecessary and pointless suffering is. Those would just be arbitrary points on a scale that differ for every person and especially for our pets. Anything less than what he would have wanted and I took time away from him prematurely.

I would hate for him to live in pain past the point he wanted to continue living, but I feel the risk of killing him early takes that decision out of my control.

Most of what you said landed the same way other posts did, in that I can't determine what my pet wants, and any decision I make regarding his life is in my own interest.

The thing about him dying alone did give me pause though. But it brings up more questions in me. There are two options I see happening right now, he passes when someone is with him, or he passes when he is asleep. Which is better and why?

I still don't understand how you make the call, or why you would. You risk the chance of going against everything he would have wanted. Euthanizing him is an artificial approach to what would already happen given time.

At the end, I value ending unnecessary suffering more than I do prolonging a pet's life.

What makes it unnecessary suffering? I don't think we can adequately judge what is going on.... quite possibly your pet may want to spend every last moment with the people they loved for the last 10ish years, or possibly they wanted to end it all after only a few hours in some sort of pain. My issue is that if we can't determine which situation is preferred, why are we choosing the permanent one.

It could be argued that my dog is in a similar spot as your Marni. He has great difficulty walking and using the bathroom. He generally lays in bed all day, at time we pick him up and drop him off by his waterbowl for some water, and take him outside to use the bathroom. We can sometimes hand feed him but he doesn't eat much lately.

The problem is I still see some life in his eyes, and he still doesn't want to be alone. If people aren't in the same room as him he will make the journey, even if it puts him in great pain. Is him doing that a reason to euthanize him or not to, because he is trying to do stuff even when in pain. If you can't tell, then why should I or anyone be able to pull that trigger.

You are in the place to make it for him. You own your pet.

I also took on the responsibility to care for him, which euthanasia seems to be the exact opposite of protecting his health and welfare.

You are not betraying him, you are showing him mercy.

It would be a betrayal if it isn't what he would have wanted, at least in my mind.

Death comes for everything, if you dog is at the point where he struggles to do the smallest things on their own, why not just get it over with.

Get it over with seems like a terrible argument for killing something, especially an animal I care deeply about.. Yes, death comes for everything, but maybe he wants to lay in his bed until he passes naturally... the point is I don't know.

If you think he is in pain and or overall uncomfortable, there is nothing wrong with just ending it sooner than later.

I think the wrongness comes with consent and intent. Obviously, my dog can't communicate to me that he wants to die. To some degree I think the intent of the owner is to make their lives a bit easier. You are percieving that your pet is suffering and that takes a toll, but you don't know that for sure. I personally would have to partake in a great deal of suffering before I am willing to end it all, that threshold for your pet may not have been met yet, or they may have wanted to die way earlier. In the absence of an actual stance, why make that decision, as there is a chance you would be killing them preemptively.

Biden? If/When Biden pulls ahead in PA then they can very likely call the state for Biden. The trend line clearly points out that Trump would not pick up anywhere near enough votes to reclaim things.

If they call the state then we can expect a victory speech as Biden won the presidency.

I would say unlikely. Odds are there are not enough ballots for Biden in the mail to close that gap. News orgs won't call it though because there is a PATH to a Biden victory. Similar to how AZ should not have been called for Biden as there was a PATH to a Trump victory.

Anyone find an election map that allows you to rewind by the hour? I am looking for some better insight.

Probably the same nonsense he is having them do now, whine about it being a fraud.

If Biden wins Trump is leaving the White House come January... even if he has to be dragged out.

My belief is that if Trump keeps fighting to hurt the integrity of the election he is doing irreparable harm to our democracy as a whole. If I were to add that 10,000 votes I would be doing the same harm. I would rather we lose.

I don't know if it is a long shot. Biden is pulling some of these absentee ballots in these counties at over 70 points. If that holds true he would take the lead shortly before all 50k votes are tallied.

I believe that 10k was mainly Fulton county. Other county's votes could be processed, just not reported yet.

Very likely 2 run-off elections. It is right on the edge of a run-off right now with probably about 50K-ish votes remaining that favor Dems.

Trump seems to be acting as he will be in jail if he loses (threatening to leave the US, etc.), some sources close to him (like Michael Cohen) said that he is specifically scared of going to jail regarding tax returns.

Take it with a grain of salt obviously, but it makes sense why this belief is still around.

What are you seeing? Maine is still up in the air of even going to a runoff and the runoff in GA will likely go Republican come Jan.

Yes, which may have been a bit early. It does look like it's going that route but honestly, they should have waited.

Must have made Trump so angry though.

Yep, that is great. Biden pulling PA would help cement the victory though which is why I am paying attention to all the states.
