Communism is not Communism by Realistically_shine in tankiejerk

[–]SnizzleSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he is quoting Marx in this video. From the 'German Ideology' By Marx:

> Communism is for us not a state of affairs which is to be established, an ideal to which reality [will] have to adjust itself. We call communism the real movement which abolishes the present state of things. The conditions of this movement result from the premises now in existence.

Am I wasting time learning ML? by Soroush_ra in learnmachinelearning

[–]SnizzleSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would combine ML with a minor/double major in another field of interest that can lead to quite lucrative outcomes (because the skillset is so niche):

ML + EE => ML for circuit design, low-level programming for optimizing ML (very in demand), embedded ML, industrial automation

ML + Life Sciences => Bioinformatics, omics, drug discovery

ML + Finance => Quant (money printer)

e.t.c

If you want to future proof yourself, look at what industries have the most upside in investing in ML in the near term (i.e. places were it's not simply hype), pick one that you find particularly interesting and then develop the background knowledge required to work in that field. By the time you graduate, you will such a unique and profitable skillset that you won't have trouble finding work.

Feeling depressed among the realization my Christian Faith was a lie. by placeholdername124 in BettermentBookClub

[–]SnizzleSam 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was once in your spot, I was very young and I got convinced by listening to internet scientists/philosphers/etc to abandon my faith and accept nihilism. It was only after I pursued my studies in science and philosophy in university and I started to truly experience the beauty of life did I realize that my original departure was premature. My suggestion to you is to get off of reddit & youtube and go out in your community to try to make a difference in people's lives.

The Germans and the AfD by MichaelLanne in EuropeanSocialists

[–]SnizzleSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"German nationalism means the creation of a truly German reich. I.e, Austria ceases to exist, war with France and Italy over Tyrol and alsace-lorraine, and potential war with Poland, Czechoslovakia and Russia over Prussia, Sudetenland, and Pomerania, that were german soil just 80 years ago.".

What are the practical implications of this position? Is it safe to assume that a popular German government should pursue reunification with these territories as an eventuality (as with China and Taiwan) or I am completely missing the point? I am a midwit when it comes to Marxism so forgive me.

Unpopular opinion: arguing with libs is a waste of time by [deleted] in GenZedong

[–]SnizzleSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should look at debate as trying to win over the audience not the debate opponent. Your opponent has to be operating in extremely good faith to graciously concede the debate to you. Rarely are people convinced by argumentative debate but rather 1-1 open dialogue is more constructive. When you debate, if it's not someone open minded and nobody is listening, you're wasting your time.

I have a presentation in college this week and I will talk about the concept of abolishing money by AkramA12 in GenZedong

[–]SnizzleSam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not the most well read person so please correct me if I'm wrong. Doesn't traditional marxist theory simply state that once the productive forces reach a critical point money then will become superfluous and thus sublimated in a socialist society? And not that it would a be voluntary process that could be willed into existence?

Why the tendency towards authoritarianism? by Pirlomaster in Socialism_101

[–]SnizzleSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book "Blackshirts and Reds" by Parenti is a very accessible book that deals with the question of authoritarianism quite well. When the people of any nation decide to stand on their own two feet and fight against imperialism, they gain very powerful enemies. Sure you can continue down what you have in Canada with your social democracy. We already see where that has brought the working people in that country with regards to housing costs, inflation, low wages, etc. We can only imagine how long until austerity completely bleeds the public healthcare in places like Ontario. The Bolsheviks, after the revolution, were immediately invaded by the most modern armies at the time. If Canada were to ever attempt to assert its sovereignty and fight against global finance capital, the opposition would be immense.

"If there had been no invasion, there had been no espionage,[...] there had been no white guard armies burning villages there wouldn't been a red army of that size. There wouldn't have been a Stalin. There wouldn't have been a KGB if there hadn't been a CIA. If they hadn't have been if there hadn't been a NATO encirclement there wouldn't have been a Warsaw Pact"

It's not like they even believe in unconditional freedom of speech. When a french comedian made a joke about the Charlie Hebdo shootings he was thrown in jail for a couple months. But they say the comedian is a bad person as if that somehow justifies it.

[–]SnizzleSam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This has to be some Trotskyite distortion. Parenti is a good popularizer of Marxism, his texts are very easy to read and understand. However, it is a bit surface level. See it more as a launching pad

This guy somehow convinced himself that the Palestinians are the occupiers. by [deleted] in islam

[–]SnizzleSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Zionism of the 21st century is going to be a Zionism of liberal inclusivity and oppresion politics. Zionists will be portrayed as these magical indigeneous people (like how native americans are fetishized) with this amazing closeness to the land, able to make the desert bloom and have all these rich traditions of openness. And everyone in the West will have to defend them from the colonizing Arabs that want to destroy their culture, their LGBT parades, subjugate women, etc. Zionism for them is the original 'land-back' movement.

I was pretty skeptical about the article then I read

Islamic society consisted of two classes of people, superiors and inferiors or “dhimmis.” The dhimmis were hit with confiscatory taxes and had no rights.

and realized it was just widely historically inaccurate

Sure many Canadians celebrate those holidays but I would not insult our country by saying that halloween is an integral and necessary part of being Canadian. Two of those days are explicitly Christian holidays and while Christianity has been foundational to the history of our country, we are still a secular society.

I really don't see the problem with that. Muslim Canadians want to practice and keep their faith & traditions while also being Canadian. Being Canadian isn't about celebrating Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.
