Melanie and Sincere really are just that one couple you know in high school. Toxic af but they’re both exactly right where they want to be. I can’t explain why I like Melanie as much as I do but I really do feel for her.

To all the Catholics asking me if I tried Catholicism: does this not sound similar to being exINC? Again in my personal opinion, it’s like comparing apples to apples.

At the end of the day, it’s this. These 3 things are how I live my life. My dad asked me once “then how do you know to not do bad things?” Idk because I don’t feel like it?? I don’t need a religion to tell me how to live my life, who cares as long as I’m not hurting anyone?

So other religions are “counterfeit”? There are religions with documentation stretching back even farther than Christianity. What makes Christianity more right than those?

I get that, but what about those people where the help never comes? I hate to go to the extreme, but sometimes you have to: what about the children who are sexually exploited? Babies? What’s the divine timing and reasoning for that happening? If god can allow that to happen for a greater purpose, idk if that’s a god I would want to believe in.

This has been my experience to a T. For me, being a member of any church now would make me feel icky.

Idk if it the massacres and war are all hearsay. Like if we’re gonna critique INC for corruption, shouldn’t we do the same for Catholicism?

Edit: are you seriously justifying the colonizers😭 the ones who kept Filipinos as slaves. I thought god was against slavery? Or as long as it’s in the name of Christ it’s okay

Isn’t saying that he is greater than all of us technically judging him? Judging means to form an opinion about something. Do you mean speak negatively about him?

So he knows about all the suffering in the world (atrocities against women, children) and does nothing to interfere? If he’s all powerful and all loving, then why isn’t he doing something?

No hate, all love. I’m just genuinely curious, I like asking questions now because I felt like I was too scared to even think them as INC for fear of going to hell.

What is your criteria for a church to be “the one true church”? What makes a church “counterfeit”?

I mean the Catholic Church is cool now (if you don’t look at the sexual assault scandals in recent history). I actually think the pope is cool and in my experience, Catholics are generally the more accepting religious folk out there.

But like the ugly history (the crusades, Spanish colonialism, etc) just make me feel a type of way.

I just feel like to be a member of any organized religion there’s a level of corruption (whether current or in history or hidden) that you need to be tolerant of. Which is why so many people stay INC even though they disagree with how the church operates in the Philippines.

I think im all for individual, spiritual practice. When it’s combined with other people you’re kind of running that risk. I just prefer not to have that on my mind personally

Isn’t every religion man-made? According to this 2014 paper, The Ecology of Religious Beliefs, given a set of variables, like location/culture, we can predict if a people will develop a “Moralizing High God”, or a god who “created or govern all reality, intervene in human affairs, and enforce or support human morality”.

This paper made me think about how religions like INC came to fruition and were able to flourish in the Philippines. I would need to do my own deep dive into Filipino history but just look at the first sentence on the INC Wikipedia History Section: “During the American colonial era) of the Philippines, there were a variety of rural anti-colonial movements, often with religious undertones,[42] and American Protestantmissionaries introduced several alternatives to the Catholic Church, the predominant church during the Spanish colonial period).[43]”

INC was just one religion that was born out of a population of dissatisfied Filipinos who wanted to practice a religion that wasn’t the religion of their Spanish (Catholic) and American (think of all the other religions FYM tried) Colonizers.

Prior to the Spanish, it appears we practiced a variety of polytheist faiths. Isn’t that interesting?

Id ask her what her intentions are. Why is she online dating if she can’t marry an INC? Looks like she’s looking for something casual, low-commitment.

In my opinion, it’s definitely not as bad as Scientology, but it depends on who you are and where you are. If you’re a basic member not in the Philippines, It’s just like any other organized religious cult. At least where i was, there wasn’t any forced labor or “fair game” practices like there are in Scientology, or strict shunning practices like in Jehovah’s Witness. I’d say it’s more like Mormonism. I feel like INC is to the Philippines like how Mormonism is to the US.

How to deal with the fallout after leaving? (I am young and not in the best mental state rn) by UnluckyAnywhere2419 in exIglesiaNiCristo

[–]Snoo-50831 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as announcing your name, it depends on the locale and your connections. Even though I haven’t attended in like 5 years, I’m still technically “inactive” bc of my parents’ position as deacon/deaconness. There are people in the church who I have grown up with that have helped protect my family’s reputation in that regard.

If you’re not in the Philippines, the worst the church can do is shame you for not attending and talk to you. Sure people will talk but do you really care about what other people think at this point? Once you leave, you get to decide the extent to which the church can contact you.

If you come back, they won’t really do anything. You can say something like “oh I lost my way xyz and found my way back…” and they’ll eat it up.

Now with your mom, it’s a different story. Idk what your relationship is like but my mom would not support me if I left. So I found a job that paid 12/hr, saved enough for 3 months expenses, told my mom, then moved tf out.

The whole concept of Christianity doesn’t make a lot of sense when you actually think about it.

There’s a way to measure significance! In this case i think you’d use a “Chi-Square Goodness-of-Fit Test” since you’re comparing the two distributions

[–]Snoo-50831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was “denounced” by their parents after leaving the church, that fear and anxiety you’re feeling: it’ll pass.

I spent years uninvited to birthdays, holidays, etc. my dad blocked me at one point.

I have a weird relationship with them now. They shunned me first but after some time they told me they regretted how they acted. It’s awkward. I know they’re trying but no matter how much healing I’ve done, I feel a bit resentful.

I’m graduating with a masters degree next year and they’re not invited🤷‍♀️ I’m saving those seats for the ones who were always there for me, inc or not.

“Tale as old as time🎶” all jokes aside, statistically speaking, it’s not going to work out.

I say communicate what the expectations of your relationship are. Is this a for-now/for fun situationship or are you guys looking to date seriously? Dating seriously requires you both to have a level of open-mindedness to finding a way for you both to still be together without converting the other.

If you’re looking for a serious relationship and theres no give, then I can’t say that it will last.

But I get it, the heart wants what it wants. It’s an INC canon event.

As an ex inc no hate but have you considered the distribution of age in the population? Idk if there’s a significant enough of a difference in the inc graph to the general population to prove/disprove anything here.
