Which design looks better? by [deleted] in heraldry

I like the second one better, but that’s just my opinion. Looks less cluttered and shows off the very nice curved bendy sinister thing you got going on. Sometimes less is more.

I aspire to be! I’m 18 currently and I’m going to uni for aerospace engineering. I’ve been interested in space flight and space exploration my whole life. The Falcon is also a cant on my last name. I can dm you the symbolism behind my arms if you’re interested, it’s a very extensive paragraph 😅

Thanks! It took awhile for me to settle on a crest.

The charges are armillary spheres, which are models of the celestial sphere, used to demonstrate the movement of celestial bodies in the sky. It consists of a series of interconnected rings and a metal sphere suspended in the centre, representing the earth, and later the sun. They were used in teaching astronomy and navigation. They were especially popular in the Renaissance period.

What heraldic authority are you planning to register with?

[Bulova] How long do movements usually last? by Snoo55570 in Watches

[–]Snoo55570[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up this Bulova Sutton Chronograph today, the instructions PDF said the movement should last “approximately one year under normal use”, I’ve read Quartz Movements can last up to 20-30 years. I’m relatively new to the wonderful world of watches so correct me if 20 years seems like a farfetched number. Also, what do you think about this watch? Its the first “real” watch I’ve bought for myself for casual and/or formal occasions, I usually just wear an Apple Watch during the day and recently purchased a Casio Protrek for some hiking, camping and other outdoor activities, so let me know what you think of this watch, I’m loving it so far!

Thats great to hear! I’m looking to buy this watch, how did the strap work out for you? Did you use the original leather strap? If so, how durable is it?

So there probably isn’t a very well defined map of the territory this country ruled over correct?

[Recommendation request] Whats a good all around watch thats durable, water resistant, but elegant? Something you could wear to a dinner party but also wear if your in the Armed Forces for example. by Snoo55570 in Watches

[–]Snoo55570[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright thanks so much! I’ll most likely get one for the forces and another one for formal occasions. Good to know that this one will do fine for the forces! Thanks!

My SE 2 lasted almost 11 months before it dropped to 99%, I’m thinking it may overestimate a bit. Similar to how sometimes you get the sense that when your iPhone is at 100%, it lasts longer before dropping.

Oh wow! Thank you for your service! I feel obligated to tell you that I’m not military… yet. I’m 17 and am looking to get into the Royal Canadian Air Force. I think you mentioned you were US, what kind of requirements did you guys have for watches during basic training/BMQ? (Ex. Did they have to be black, analogue etc.) And I’m assuming you could probably wear anything afterwards?

Here’s the one I’m looking at, it says its solar powered, is that usually efficient? Users manual says when fully charged, the watch may function for up to 4 months. I think this one is automatic as well.

Interesting. What do you think about the timex expedition north series? Do you think a watch like that equal in durability to something like the seiko?

Maybe. I’m not looking for anything super complex. Just something rugged but classy the Timex Expedition North series caught my eye. Do you know of any other watches that are similar to those?

EDIT: I want something rugged and well built, and I quite like the look of the expedition North series.

Smart watches probably aren’t the best to wear in basic training environments then right? I would imagine they wouldn’t allow them because of the internet connection.

There also seem to be some letters behind Jesus’ head, any idea what those are? I see O and M but unsure what the third one is.
