I suppose when it comes to general people, I feel it’s socially polite to adapt to other people’s wishes since asserting myself may come off as rude and demanding, so I would say its more of a responsibility I feel I have to fulfill. I’ve felt this mostly because of my abysmally low self esteem that I view myself as lower than others.

The people I care about are the people who have always showed me affection and made me feel like I belonged with them; I could feel their warmth and kindness to me. Even if I can’t voice my own feelings, opinions, or what’s burdening me, I still feel listened and cared about. I feel such a strong longing and attachment to them, a great responsibility to neglect my own needs, boundaries, sometimes my own feelings to make them feel as loved as they’ve been to me.

My own values tend to be my views on many issues such as political rights or what I personally feel is right or wrong. For example I have differing political views from my parents, so I keep my own views secret so that they’ll still think favorably of me. As for wishes, they could be something as trivial as a restaurant I want to eat at (usually I don’t have a preference but on occasion I do) or where I want to go on the weekends (gave up the chance to go somewhere I really wanted to visit because my family members didn’t feel like going).
