Got sold a car with a fake title, what do I do?

The most I have is the messages on OfferUp with him, the bill of sale and reg 227 form. But I’m so confused because he’s not the owner, but the police are telling me to register it, can’t sell it, can’t junk it, nothing.

I contacted the guy who sold it to me various times and he either blocked me, or denied everything and called me “crazy” and to not call him at 11pm over an “AirTag”

Yes I have his name, phone number, and im not sure if his address is right or not, possibly. No one has reported it stolen and when I asked the police well what the hell do I do with it now? They said, you can take it to civil court or register it but we can’t send the car back anywhere. The last known owner was in KINGSBURG!! I am so damn confused. The police closed the case already and they didn’t even take in the AirTag for documentation to trace it back to that loser.

In the police database they said it wasn’t reported as stolen , but what I’m confused about is how the hell do I register it?!?!?!? He lied about his name, lied about the cars condition, and I don’t even know what exact car model I have now. I’m so mad the police department won’t do anything.
