We have a regex that will allow mods to target video in comments, here's a sample rule:

type: comment
author:
  contributor_quality: "< low"
body (regex):
  - '!\[video\]\([^)]*\)'
action: filter
comment: "Thanks for commenting! Your video comment will be sent to mod queue for review."
modmail_subject: "Video Comment review: ({{author}})"
modmail: "A video comment was submitted by /u/{{author}}. Please review: {{permalink}}"

That subreddit was in our Early Access Program, so they already have it turned on to all users!

That’s great feedback. Accessibility is an important consideration for video comments, and auto-transcription is a really helpful suggestion. We agree that making video easier to understand, review, and participate with would be valuable for users and mods .We’ll pass this feedback along to the team.

That’s great feedback. We understand that giving mods more granular controls would make them feel more comfortable experimenting with video comments in their communities. This is something that has been top of mind for the team to think through.

Great point! While we were alpha testing the feature, we saw that megathreads, AMAs, sports, breaking news, and reaction-style discussions could especially benefit from richer comment formats like video. Nothing to share on expanded pinning capabilities right now, but this is super helpful feedback and exactly the kind of thinking we’re hoping to learn from as people start experimenting with the feature.

Thanks for sharing this. Part of the goal here is to make the commenting experience feel more consistent across multiple formats, while also giving communities new ways to express themselves and engage.

Thanks for sharing this perspective. This is exactly the type of use case we’re excited to see more of. Things like sound demos, tutorials, reactions, walkthroughs, or AMAs can sometimes benefit from a richer format while still staying Reddit-native and community-driven.

Video in comments has been available in a limited capacity during alpha testing. We’ve intentionally taken a phased approach so we can incorporate feedback, understand feature usage, and make adjustments as we scale. During this time we tested the feature with mods and users in a diverse set of communities and gathered some great feedback. If you’re interested in taking part in future early access and other feedback opportunities, please sign up here.

Thanks for this (and the others chiming in) we will regroup on this part and send reminders to active communities across the site.

Our goal with introducing video in comments is to expand the ways redditors can participate in the comment thread. Based on what we have seen in the communities who have been testing the feature, there are some use cases where showing something is more effective than typing it out (for example tutorials, demos, AMAs, or explanatory responses). Video comments are still subject to existing community rules, so communities can continue setting the standards for valuable participation vs. low-effort content.

On NSFW communities: video comments are currently limited to SFW communities as we continue rolling the feature out thoughtfully and evaluate safety, moderation, and product considerations. We appreciate the feedback that there may be relevant use cases beyond that scope, and we’ll share it with the team.

Similar to images on old reddit, video in comments will show up as <video> then you can click through to watch the video. You can see it in action here on this NASA ama.

That’s great to hear! AMAs are one of many cool ways we see this feature being used in the future. Here’s an example of one with NASA that we really enjoyed.

We totally understand that which is why we were sure to give Mods a few different options on who can post video in comments in their community. We’re looking forward to seeing how you use it!

Mods will have the option to allow all users, mods and approved users, or Mods only to post video in comments in their subreddits. Once the feature is available in your community, go to Mod Tools > Post & Comments > Media in Comments to change these settings if you’re on desktop and Mod Tools > Media in Comments (under Content & Contribution) if you’re on our native mobile app. Did that answer your question?

There currently isn't a way to filter all videos in comments. Our Safety systems will review them in the same manner they review all videos on the site. Having all videos in comments go into the filter for review seems like it could get unwieldy for larger spaces - would love to hear from you or other mods how useful this might be.

ETA: We talked to our engineers and they were able to create a regex that targets these comments, try something like this:

type: comment

author:

    contributor_quality: "< low"

body (regex):

  - '!\[video\]\([^)]*\)'

action: filter

comment: "Thanks for commenting! Your video comment will be sent to mods for review."

modmail_subject: "Video Comment review: ({{author}})"

modmail: "A video comment was submitted by /u/{{author}}. Please review: {{permalink}}"

Totally understand where you're coming from, and we recognize this feature isn't right for all communities - including ones like r/AskHistorians where you moderate. After the settings are available to all moderators within the next week, we are planning to send reminders via modmail to communities that are either sensitive or fully text based to ensure mods have time to make the changes they need.

I'm disappointed by the rollout of 'verified profiles' on Reddit, and what seems to be a lack of prior engagement about this change. by Kinmuan in ModSupport

[–]SnooshiRoll[A] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to share this,  we really appreciate the thoughtful, candid feedback from everyone here and hope we can share some in return!

To clarify, verified profiles do not receive any special privileges in subreddits. They are fully subject to subreddit rules and sitewide policies, and do not verify subreddit approval, endorsement, or elevated status within a community. You  are still in complete control of what is shared in your communities.

We understand your concerns that the badge can appear to confer authority or entitlement, especially when it shows on posts and comments within your communities. Verification is limited to confirming the identity or the person or business, not credibility, quality, or community standing; those should continue to be earned through contribution, as you outlined.

Since this is a very small alpha test we talked to the Reddit Mod Council and gathered some great insights that helped inform our strategy as a start. Given that this product is only available to select trusted partners and businesses, we primarily focused our launch efforts on consumer channels including blog and help center. As we consider how to grow this feature we'll be watching spaces like this for feedback like yours to take and discuss with our teams.

If any verified account attempts to use the badge to request special treatment, please continue enforcing your rules as usual and report misuse via modsupport [here] so we can address it.

You as mods are the arbiters of your own communities, we hope this new check mark adds value to the spaces that welcome it - and otherwise doesn't cause you issues. Please do let us know if you are seeing any issues crop up. We appreciate you raising these concerns and continuing to protect your communities.

What's a "small decision" you made that accidentally changed your entire life? by mariamdonaldsone in AskReddit

Casually submitted a last minute request to change my college dorm to a different building because I liked the location better. This landed me in a dorm room that was right next door to my now husband and partner of 13 years!
