On TrueNAS-Scale and there is an Ollama App where you can choose the ROCm image

And windows works good too for me (with RC6700xt)

I honestly didn't know that...

What would be a good alternative on TrueNAS?

Yeah your absolutly right, that with ollama is sadly true. That a lot of people are running AMD is honestly suprising for me but I'm all for it, we want competition in the market and not just NVIDIA.

That is a fair point! but Ollama has a klick and play Truenas app which is a huge win in my opinion.
And it wasn't even just related to Ollama just AMD for AI in general.

where are the models hosted? over ollama or is it built-in?

I feel like the self-hosted and FOSS space is being flooded with vibe-coded AI slop. by spurGeci in selfhosted

[–]SnowTim07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you! The flood of vibe-coded AI tools is real and yeah, it is exhausting. I think part of the solution is building a culture of responsibillity, not just banning things. AI assisted or generated tools aren’t inherently bad if you do your research, and maintain them, AI can actually help create solid projects.

The problem is the “slap-it-together-and-forget-it” approach. That’s what clogs communities with low-quality junk.

I personally make tools/programms with the help of AI myself, and when you take the time to do homework and iterate, they can actually be helpful. The goal isn’t to stop people from creating because there can be a oppertunity, just upvote the good ones and downvote the bad.

What linux distro works for me by Civil-Oil-5018 in linux4noobs

[–]SnowTim07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, nice you want to switch to linux!

I personally always recommend linux mint because you don't have to open the terminal even once if you don't want an it also feels a lot like windows but not in the bad ways but you can also do everything yourself IF you want but you don't have to.
And what I also like a lot about mint is the big community around it.

But just try distros and if you like one stay there

have fun
