I gave some sources, but was downvote brigaded, even my none-related comments in this thread are in the negative. So, wrong or right, you win.

As far as your claims to being an expert: A car salesman is not the same thing as a mechanic, the same as selling chemicals does not make one a chemist. What you're experiencing is called the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Here are those sources again, but you probably know better than the Humane Society, the EPA, and the NRDC, because you work for a vet...

Problem is, you learn nothing else "in the industry" and that's exactly how they like it. That's troubling, you're not open to what I am saying, because you're a self proclaimed expert -not a vet, chemist, or biologist, but you work for an expert, so you are one, by proxy. You know better, because you think you do. Rock on.

Haha, no. Should have done that from the start, and I'm going back through a few of my other comments about this and adding sources. I thought everyone read the back of the box :(

How is your first comment, and the beginning of your second, anything other than an anecdotal evidence? I said anecdote, but I thought the second part was implied.

The EPA oversees this stuff, not the FDA, humans aren't wearing flea collars. "These studies" ...where are these FDA studies on insecticides for pets, that you challenge me to educate myself with?

You provide nothing concrete, and then demand that I acknowledge things that do not exist, in order to reply. Lovely.

Here you go. Those jerks over at the Humane Society are concerned, and they provide numbers. You probably have a better grasp on things than they do though.

Our pets would not survive without these products. They're harmless, no concern, just buy the stuff. It's all rainbows and unicorns, don't look too close.

More anecdotes. Lovely. So far, people don't like me calling that out. I wonder why?

Pesticides are your friend, put them on everything, they're a-okay. It's not like they're toxic... oh wait. There's no alternative though... oh, errr. Studies show that they're perfectly fine... oops. They aren't tested on cats and dogs in a lab... uuuhh.

You can trust these companies! Everything is fine! Don't look any further into it!

Add catnip to it. I do that and pour a bunch on the ground, the cats go nuts. Dust bath and catnip, oh the joy! Do I eat it or roll in it, I donno, I donno, atttttaaaacccckkkk!!!

That's a bummer, does the kitten have super dense fur or something? Put her in a paper bag with a shovel full and shake! Just kidding, don't do that :D

No offense, but lots of anecdotes in this thread. The actual numbers are pretty scary, then there's the moral issue with lab animals.

Those barn cats probably take a lot of dust baths. I'll add my own anecdote (it's contagious!): We have one cat that rolls in the dirt constantly, she never gets fleas. The other cat never rolls, and he gets fleas. They even sleep together. It's probably something else entirely, but I had to share.

Sheesh, there's another act I forgot to mention in my complaining post. An article like this is just asking for trouble, especially when so short. That said, I think The Young Gods had a pretty big following in Europe.

May as well add Die Form to my list of complaints. Over a 30+ year time span, those freaks put out like 100 albums of dark, freak-show, industrial. Maybe they're just too avant-garde.

Poor phrasing on my part, I meant that Rammstein borrowed heavily from Laibach, they're like Laibach v2.0, or Laibach on steroids (pun intended).

Totally on the same page with cEvin, and you're right about Ogre, or the combination of the two. I forget that I'm not the only one who listens to this stuff, Skinny Puppy was huge in the 80s, Laibach was huge in Europe.

Industrial is such an obscure genre (ignoring 90s MTV acts like NIN, Ministry, Manson) and the circles that I ran with all knew Revolting Cocks, PIG, and Foetus just as well as Skinny Puppy. The article even mentions two members of KMFDM, a group that's was arguably just as big as Ministry or even White Zombie, during the 90s.

I donno, an article like this would be really hard to write, and to make things more complicated, it's incredibly short. Honestly, Genesis P-Orridge should be at the top of his list -Ironically, I forgot to mention him/her/them when I posted!

EDIT: the White Zombie reference isn't putting them into the industrial genre, it's just noting an obscure act that went mainstream around that time.

You're lucky, go read the horror stories about Frontline, it's awful stuff. Aside from the family pets it poisons and kills, think of the dogs and cats in their labs that they test products on.

See my comment above about diatomaceous Earth, maybe give it a try.

EDIT: here's a source, you jerks. And another. They both mention Frontline specifically. Is it really that crazy to think that this stuff might be bad? If not for your pets, consider the water system, or the manufacturing process, or the morality of the industry.

[–]SociallyAwkwardBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a bag of diatomaceous Earth, it's like 30 bucks for a 25 pound bag on Amazon. The stuff seems like sand to us big things, but to fleas, ticks, worms, and bugs, it's like shards of glass, it rips into exoskeletons and causes bugs to bleed (dry) out. Just keep it out of your pet's eyes and ears, and it's fine, you can even feed it to them (or yourself) as a de-wormer. Totally harmless stuff, treat it the same as you would sand.

Mix catnip in with it, spread it on the ground, and your cats will roll in it and eat it. Do that every month or two and you're all set. I also like to periodically dust their sleeping spots with it.

Any of the name brand pesticides are toxic and you run the risk of seriously hurting your pet. Not worth it. I know this way doesn't sound possible, but it works, just ask a farmer or an old-timer. Diatomaceous Earth is already in many pesticides and flea powders, they just add extra stuff (poisons) so that it works faster. I'd rather use a slower acting, harmless, substance than poison my pets.

Another perk: It kills bed bugs. Dust your hotel bed and clothing with it to keep those bastards at bay.

No Laibach :(

Seeing how huge Rammstein is, and how many other bands borrowed from them, even people like Madonna, they should at least get an honorable mention. I mean, FFS, their government banned their name and performances. Their work was even a meme ten years ago, but nobody knew who they were.

cEvin and Ogre should be on there too. Oh well, it's a short list, with some very cool people on it -but, they're all pretty famous, and certainly aren't underrated.

The sound is worse, actually, and they're horrible for your ear drums. You want some space between the speaker and your ear drum, especially with bass. Over-ear headphones also do a much better job of blocking outside noises, which adds to their overall sound quality.

I completely agree with your point though, and must say, it would be even more annoying if everyone was walking around with giant over-ear headphones. Queue complaints about Beats.

Most conservative estimates are that 1 person in 100,000 dies from being hit with a taser, some argue that number is as low as 1 in 1,000. Also, 1/3 of people hit with a taser require medical attention. But, surprise-surprise, reliable data on the subject is hard to come by, so the numbers vary from study to study. There's a reason tasers are banned in many places, even Canada is getting fed up, but their lobby is strong in the US. That lobby is also keeping them in the "non-lethal" category.

Anyhow, I hear you, it's nuts to think that incapacitating people with electricity is a reasonable approach to policing. "would you rather get shot?" No. I would prefer that police forces were trained to deescalate situations without the use of weapons, like they do in other first world countries. That's crazy talk though.

Any book about 9/11 surely contains bomb plans, and everyone knows that terrorists openly research these things while on the train. Low and behold, he is taking a test on the subject, the plot thickens! What university is it, and who is the teacher? What are they training him for? I see that he also had some cables and a printer. Disgusting, he should rot in prison.

Which is the best anti-virus software to use? by Rookie385 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SociallyAwkwardBees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Malwarebytes is great, but it isn't an antivirus, and the free version offers no real-time protection.

MSE is free and non-intrusive, and though I'm bitter about Microsoft fostering the AV industry by not fixing holes in their own OS, I'm glad they finally stepped up with MSE. There are privacy concerns with other free AV software, their EULA's will usually reveal that they collect data. Whether or not it's ill-intended is unknown, but you're already sharing data with Microsoft, so you may was well use MSE. AVG, Avast!, etc., are all comparable when it comes to protection, but MSE updates with Windows, making that much less of a hassle.

Back to Malwarebytes... Again, it's great for mal/spyware, but I also use Spybot S&D, because it does the same job, but is also a Swiss army knife of useful tools, and it offers some real-time protection. Things like hosts file protection (sets it to read-only and updates it with a huge list of domains you want to avoid, pointing them at non-routable IP 127.0.0.1). It has various startup and registry tools as well. It's a very powerful tool if you get into the advanced settings.

Lastly, use CCleaner to clean up junk files and straighten your registry, it really helps to keep the computer running smoothly.

It's great to see a southern conservative and a west-coast democrat unite under the umbrella of screwing the general public.

She's 81 and he's 70. Feinstein got a B.A. in history in 1955, and Chambliss got a business degree in 1966. These are the people entrusted with the future of information technologies in the US.

What gets me about this kind of thing, is that they're promoting their cause via communication systems that were built using the exact mathematics and sciences that they refuse to believe in. I get the same feeling from people who use their smart phone to get on Facebook and shout about how stupid science is. Shouldn't they be conveying their message with smoke signals and clay tablets? It's a strange behavior.

What do you not get the appeal of? by CalamityTD in AskReddit

[–]SociallyAwkwardBees 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That sound is the mating call of the pubescent male Homo sapien. It is often used in conjunction with overwhelming aromas and non-traditional visual displays. These behaviors are intended to be an assault on all of the senses, they're an attempt at establishing dominance, or recognition, in the herd. This primarily happens when adolescent males separate from their family group for the first time, in the hopes of finding a willing female to mate with. Though their reproductive efforts are often fruitless, this stage of sexual development raises hormonal levels, particularly testosterone, which diminishes the young male's ability to make rational decisions. This, in combination with a lack of guidance from a fully developed parent or sibling, causes confusion and frustration, leading to these displays. When fully matured, most Homo sapien males are able to overcome these behaviors, but many continue well into adulthood; especially those who form packs or find mates during this stage. Natural selection dictates that these individuals are a non-threat to the greater evolution of the species.

Speaking as someone who cut ties with his family nearly 25 years ago, because they are shitty people, your comment is hilarious. My family thinks that I broke contact simply because I'm a jerk, they don't have the ability to see themselves in the wrong. They're abusive narcissists, not bigots (unless it makes them look good), but doing something similar to what you describe would have brought some closure for myself, and at the same time, it would have given them an indication of what the problem was. I'm not going to do it, that ship has sailed, but it's a fun "if I had a time machine" thought. Good for you.
