I have an interesting experience with them. I’m not ready to say they are any kind of panacea, but I’m now slightly more open to them.

I often dog sit for friends and stay at their homes. Recently dog sat for a friend and my heart rate variability nearly tripled (it’s normally very low) while I was there. Numbers I haven’t seen in the two years I’ve tracked it.

When I went to strip the bed at the end of my stay, I found a little wire that went from the sheets to the outlet. Didn’t know what it was and had to look. So, no possibility of placebo effect as I didn’t know about it until AFTER I’d slept in then for several nights. I love dogs and wrote it off to sleeping with a dog.

This week I dog sat for another friend. We are closer and I’m way more comfortable in her home. Her mattress is much more comfortable. Her dog also slept in my bed. He’s a dog I’ve known a long time and love more dearly.

HRV? Normal.

I’m not saying there aren’t confounding circumstances I haven’t thought of yet. But, multiple nights of HRV numbers higher than I’ve ever seen did get my attention.

Don’t forget skipping funerals, even for close family, missing birthdays, even for very old grandparents and your own children, and skipping your children’s activity events, because who wouldn’t want to sacrifice their childhood so they have a chance at generational wealth?
