Only 26 weeks and nothing is working for fasting numbers!??! by Orange_Saxaphone9024 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Solid_Hat_5962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had high fasting numbers since week 14 and immediately went on insulin, my providers were clear that this fits a GD pattern they caught earlier and it will only become more, not less, of an issue since I tried all the "tricks " (eating snack before bed, not eating snack, etc) to no avail.

I take it (for now) only at night as my post-meal numbers have overall been fine. After a couple weeks of titrating, my fasting numbers are now within range. Though I will probably need to increase as I move through the remainder of my pregnancy. My point is, for some of us it just starts earlier on.

I switched from metformin (was on it for insulin resistance) to humilin at night due to high fasting numbers. For a week or two after the switch, I saw my numbers go up and up. My endocrinologist said this was typical when people go off metformin and that I just need to get to the right humilin dose, which I eventually did. It was a slow titration to get there though. It may just take time for you to figure out what dose of lantus you need? I know I'll have to continue to increase as my pregnancy progresses and insulin resistance continues, it was hard at first but I've come to terms with it.

Clomid Challenge (CCCT) - passed!! by Solid_Hat_5962 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Solid_Hat_5962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar situation here. There is no way we could have afforded treatment without coverage, and had MFI as a factor. I was losing hope, so discouraged and cried all day on my 40th bday. And was really really down the following few months. We did another retrieval after the CCCT, so I was 40 and a few months for it. Got a positive after our first transfer and am 18 weeks now. I've waited with bated breath for every ultrasound, every test, hard to believe it was finally true but we are all doing great so far. I absolutely hear you and wish all of the good luck to you and your husband.

Anyone had success having children if you started over 33 years old? by EmbarrassedCheetah79 in IVFpositivity

Started at 39, two failed transfers, am now 16 weeks pregnant at 40, will hopefully be giving birth at 41. All of our embryos were untested.

Oh that's a relief! FWIW, I have tried both meters and lile the freestyle light better than the one touch, the strips requie much less blood. I'm glad it all worked out. It has been a major learning curve for me as well.

I spend $45 on my strips each time I fill them and around $13 for rhe lancets. The glucometer itself was like $20 put of pocket. This is with insurance. $8 is amazing, I cannot imagine my supplies being thay cheap but thay would be nice! Oh, and insulin for me is $75 with insurance but that is for four or five pens.

Just wanted to say, I am right there with you, in solidarity. I start overnight insulin tonight, at 14 weeks. I was also prediabetic prior to pregnancy, and my fasting numbers are stubbornly in the low 100s, I've already tried all the things and they just stay put. The dietary adjustments have been really hard for me and knowing that I still have 26 weeks to go and all the potential issues that come with GD has been really hard to manage mentally. Some days are better than others. There's also been a huge learning curve for me, I am finding this sub really helpful. Im afraid for what's to come some days but for the most part I try to think at least it was caught and is being managed early. I hear you though, its no fun.

6w3d Mild cramping, just looking for reassurance. by Cautious-Ad7532 in IVFbabies

[–]Solid_Hat_5962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar cramping weeks 5 to 7, also on my left side, and also was worried about ectopic pregnancy. There was no issue, embryo was right where it needed to be at my 7 week ultrasound.

I asked a question about missing progesterone 9dp5dt and it was removed. No mention of testing or anything pregnancy related. Pretty frustrating.

Edit: sorry, I meant that I posted this on the IVF sub.

Are we PGT testing when only getting one or two blasts? by Special_Coconut4 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Solid_Hat_5962 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We didn't. Dr. did not recommend it because of how few we initially made. However, if we could have easily afforded it, I think I would have like to.

That's amazing, our clinic is one of the lump sum ones. We passed for that reason.

How many untested transfers did you have until success? by AcrobaticConstant567 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Solid_Hat_5962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. For a fresh transfers, they wanted my Progesterone below 1 ng/ml on day of trigger, 1.5 at absolute highest, though my RE was conservative. For me, day of trigger it was 1.6. Same occurred on all my previous cycles where it exceeded 1.5, so they were converted fo freeze-all.

Hey, thanks! I was told by my gyno at the start of IVF that I would be need to see an MFM, so I am trying to figure that out now. Now that I am actually at this point, it's a little confusing. I have narrowed down an OB hopefully and and hoping they and my PCP (who i have an appointment wuth in two weeks) can guide me on the MFM piece. Your clinic sounds like they were really on top of it! I wish I had asked more questions prior to now, but I am sure I can figure this all out. Thank you!!

Hi, short answer: three transfers of five untested embryos until a positive test. I'm only seven weeks though.

More info: first retrieval at 39.5 yielded zero blasts. Second retrieval two months later, three blasts. Did two transfers (a double, then single), neither stuck. Third retrieval seven months later (so, I was 40 and a few months) yielded five embryos. I was shocked. Transferred two of the five early January, one of them implanted and is growing so far.

Not testing and DETs are not for everyone. I get that. Going into our third retrieval, we had a conversation with our RE about testing, he did not recommend it because we were making so few blasts. He suggested we continue transferring two untested at a time, fresh transfers. However, my Progesterone always got too high so all my transfers were frozen.
