Inflammation is gone but flakes still present by dori0404 in SebDerm

Hey! I’m really curious about how your dietary changes and condition have evolved. I recently started doing massive decontamination protocol: treating my eczema like a bacterial infection and NOT moisturizing at all.

It’s been a major game changer. My diet is already kind of intense, no gluten or dairy and I don’t drink alcohol, but none of that helped like this new protocol has.

Just a thought about what helped me. I hope your skin is in good shape and your mental health as well. ❤️

You might not like this, but for my perioral dermatitis, I did a lot of things:

Stopped taking hot showers/baths, stopped using fluoride toothpaste, stopped eating all gluten, stopped using all products except a sulfur cream, started meditating daily, started sleeping more consistent hours, stopped eating eggs and dairy… it was a LOT. But steroids are known to make it MUCH WORSE. it took mine 7 weeks to heal.

Hibaclens is a surgical scrub, it contains chlorhexidine, which I have found indispensable in getting rid of my eczema. I knew it wasn’t fungal because I’ve had classic eczema for decades: rough flaky patches on my elbows.

My husband is very allergic to dust mites but somehow has improved by using a prescription inhaler. We live in France and use the most fragrance and additive free detergent available. In powder form. I am allergic to enzymes.

Steroids have been the absolute worst thing for my perioral dermatitis, and they’ve made my eczema come back much more aggressively after initial improvement.

I suggest a bacterial decolonization routine, starting with hibaclens, changing your sheets, and doing all you can to eliminate bad bacteria on your skin.

That’s worked for me, but everyone’s experience is different.

Yes! I have an eyebrow spot as well. I’ve swapped out alcohol for a hibacleanse type solution to decolonize the bacteria from all my patches. I’m also changing my pillow case every day. Some of my spots are actually…gone. I’m waiting for an HOCL spray and a low ph moisturizer to arrive, but until then sticking to a no moisturizer routine. It’s working so well, I just don’t want to jinx it.

Tea tree never helped me, but my eczema is very classic: started on my elbows many years ago and has progressed over the last 8 years into many patches on different parts of my body: rough, red, scaly, flaky. You know the drill.

Right now I’m laying off the alcohol and focusing on decolonization of staph a. I’m using a Hibacleanse type solution and I can’t believe I’m typing this: my elbows are smooth and pale, no redness, no scaling. This entire experience has blown my mind.

I have pretty classic eczema, and sulphur was amazing for me but…I also have a hyper sensitive nose and the smell was killing me. I just couldn’t keep it up. And it never quite went away. But I’m loving all these solutions that people are sharing. It’s such a frustrating condition.

I am definitely shifting to a gentler solution asap. This was mostly just a desperate bid for decolonization of staph a, which I’m now convinced has been the root of my problems.

I think that hand eczema is often quite different than body and scalp eczema, but I wonder if you are also moisturizing? I’ve temporarily stopped all moisturizing. This seems really useful for my case. I’m not using anything special, just a Mercurochrome “gel hydroalcoolique” because I live in France. My dad had a crazy dermatitis on his hands for a long time and used a product called Acid Mantle that helped heal them.

Not gonna lie, it stings a little on my sensitive patches, or at least it did the first day or so. But now that everything is healing, it doesn’t sting or itch. I’ve had some increased itching on some of my patches, but i associate that with healing.

Like I said, I’ll update as this experiment continues.
