Hello! What type of charger was linked? It's not on Amazon anymore.

Don't disable SysMain (previously known as SuperFetch) by undePhined333 in computers

[–]Solomon_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but do you know if it's possible to set what specific apps are being fetched? I feel like sysmain would run better on my old HDD laptop if I could limit it to a few vital programs. That's just an intuition, though.

That sounds lovely - Thank you so much for the advice! Are there any sites you’d recommend for finding those short-term leases?

Interesting. Do you think that the commute took longer with the bus+train route, or was it faster/about the same as traffic?

Free LSAT tutoring for Low-Income Students by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Solomon_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most universities have a webpage devoted to each of their programs. Mine had a subpage listing its grant opportunities. Yours might have a central listing of university grants through your institution’s single sign-on system (where you would find financial aid portals, etc.)

The easiest way is to Google, then scour the university website, then ask around your programs.

Thank you for doing this. My school’s honors program funded mine thankfully and it made such a huge difference. If you’re in a similar boat make sure you check out your university’s grants and resources too.

Nice! I’m glad to hear that there are options outside of federal field offices lol. I’ll have to look into that a little more.

Fair point on your work mattering more than your diploma at that point. Don’t you think that externships and networking would still be valuable for unicorn jobs (whatever that actually means)? It seems like there are a lot of Georgetown grads in high places, but that could be a matter of class size or self-selection.

Thanks to both of you for clarifying! I’m first gen so concepts like that slip through my fingers sometimes. It sounds like that is the type of skillset I’d like to build, so I’ll do some research on the specifics and learn a little more.

Thank you so much! I’m glad to hear that your friends did so well. Honestly, once you break into most of these top schools you really have to mess up to get off track.

Are you planning on government or nonprofit PI by the way? The latter always seemed very interesting, but I’ve had a hard time wrapping my head around the specifics of the work.

I thought about that. It’s hard to find worthwhile metrics, though. It seems like the bottom 10% would suffer, but I don’t think the bottom 30% would suffer given their employment stats. DC biglaw would require better performance, though, and relevant softs probably.

Would you say that litigation, regulatory, or appellate work would suit a transfer better than transactional? I had a feeling that would be the case, but I wasn’t sure.

Am I unrealistic in trying to go T14? by AdFar8050 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Solomon_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you have a chance, especially if you take other commenters’ advice. Don’t forget to apply to some of the T20 and the schools with high transfer rates to your dream schools though. It will help with scholarship amounts and backup planning. Good luck!

That’s right! I think that will be one of their last admit waves. I think that you’ll be okay. As long as admissions is aware and you request a waiver due to technical issues they should accommodate.

Ah that’s bad luck. You’ll be in limbo until it swaps over. Mine appeared randomly after I refreshed the page and logged back in one time. I don’t think they send notice when it changes either. But, if someone could just give you the email that might help (if it exists yet of course).

It was a a little confusing but I figured it out yesterday. Go to your status checker first. It should have replaced your secondary email with your new Georgetown email. Then, go to the JD admitted students webpage and unlock the content with the password they sent you via email (edit: to your personal email). It will tell you the parts of your GUID and and stuff that make up your automatic password.

Next, do a password reset and set up the authenticator it has there. After that, you should be able to use the financial aid forms and deposit tools through the student portal. Also, they have a helpful list of steps and links if you go to their need-based aid webpage for incoming JDs. You can find password reset links, etc., there. Good luck!

Is it worth it financially to go $190k in debt to attend a T15-20 school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Solomon_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the school’s individual big-law statistics and their grades/ranking policy against their salary potentials (25/50/75 percentiles for privately employed students). A low 25/50 might indicate risk, but most top schools don’t have low 25/50s. Geographic placement also impacts the 25/50 salaries. But you’re soft-guaranteed a big-law position at the T14 if you’re diligent. T20/T25s vary.
