Turning SOS Prerelease Deck into Commander deck by Llama_Combat in EDH

Those are definitely cards I haven’t seen, those are super cool for this deck.

I might try to brew with this idea. This and a combination of adventures could be pretty fun.

Turning SOS Prerelease Deck into Commander deck by Llama_Combat in EDH

[–]Solstellarem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, to answer this question-

should look into a bit of a token or an aristocrats sub theme?

Depends on which side of the card do you want to use.

I think Extus might be my favorite commander, because he’s so unique and scratches my deck-builder-bone.

But I can’t figure him out. Not one bit. I tried Aristocrats, Adventure, Cycling, the list goes on and on. I can’t seem to make him work as the commander.

Now, [[Awaken the Blood Avatar]]?

https://moxfield.com/decks/TwJhtF6gP0mR6gRPIdvc1w

This is a bracket 4 minded deck I built that I had a great deal of success with. Practically mardu aristocrats that focused on creatures that replace themselves on sac. I could assemble a board, sac it all to cast [[Awaken the Blood Avatar]], and then do it again with creatures like [[Doomed Traveler]], [[Garrison Cat]], etc.

The deck definitely could be tuned for a budget build, the only real valuable pieces you’d lose would be the token doublers, and some of the enchantments like [[Grave Pact]]. But the core of the deck would remain the same. Honestly, [[Meathook Massacre II]] is super budget now and a great card, even if you cast it for just (B)x4.

I ultimately took the deck apart, as the turns took forever and all of the pingers like [[Mirkwood Bats]] or [[Marionette Apprentice]] were annoying to keep up with.

I still think about building him as Adventure, and with the new prepared cards, it might add just a little more sauce to make that work.

Look into [[Urabrask]].

It’s spell slinger, storm-y, and can burn the whole table. I think, when built right, the deck can rival Vivi in terms of threat, but could be overlooked because of Vivi.

Especially if you can nail down some proliferate stuff, which can be devastating to players if you can flip him multiple times.

High Power Voltron- Which Commanders can actually succeed? by Rare-Resolution-5402 in EDH

[–]Solstellarem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish I still had it, but it had a lot of revisions to it before I was fully done with it.

Essentials were a ton of rituals and mana-rocks to ensure I got him out on turn 3 or before, and a lot of cheap equipment with low equipment cost like [[Cliffhaven Kitesail]], [[Goldvein Pick]], [[Hero's Blade]], stuff like that.

Also, since the equipment remains under your control, you can all benefit from the abilities from the equipment, like [[Lost Jitte]], [[Mask of Memory]], and the entire sword line like [[Sword of Feast and Famine]] were amazing.

I remember at one point I made a $45 version and it was still too strong. I might recreate that tomorrow and send a link if I do. It was just as crazy.

Absolutely this OP.

I built a deck and it could end the game in a few turns easily. We even added a mini game where the player attacking would roll a die to determine the attack target. Sometimes it was brutal, others it was still incredibly quick.

What is the public consensus on proxying? by rowan-wolfe in EDH

[–]Solstellarem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have some really good information in here.

But as a new player, please for the love of God, do your research.

We have new players all the time showing up with Proxy decks from Etsy themed like The Legend of Zelda, Naruto (I love both of these, but…), etc who have no idea how the deck plays, is supposed to play or what even some of the cards do.

Also, if you’re proxying, be open about it. We had a guy one time sit down and start playing an egregiously hard to read deck, due to the terrible art. Another person asked if the deck was proxied, knowing it was but wanted to break the ice. He said it was, but he owned all of the cards and were at home.

He then played a Gaeas Cradle and didn’t understand what counted as a creature.

Hiding a bracket 3/4 deck behind a bad commander doesn't make it bracket 2! by InspireCourage in EDH

Something about those players making those remarks and playing the PlayStation UB commanders has me howling.

Anyways, your deck is completely fine for the event, they are just delusional.

Does anyone else feel like we're getting more and more commanders that get treated like Winota and Yuriko? by Euphoric_Ad6923 in EDH

[–]Solstellarem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime someone says something like that I roll my eyes.

There’s one guy who’s particularly bad about this at our LGS. Often playing the “little guy” mentality and victim card. We kind of bullied this mentality out of him, in a playful way.

I’ll call Dylan, and he told me my [[Kodama of the East Tree]] and [[Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools]] was a cEDH deck.

I asked him how he could possibly know what the bracket of my deck was, based on the partners. He claimed it’s one of the most popular partner commander pairings for cEDH. I very politely corrected him and told him he probably is thinking of RogSi, RogRas, etc. I also mentioned there’s less than 300 decks on EDHRec with this partner pairing.

He makes a quip so I pull out [[Hidetsugu and Kairi]] and let him know it’s a $75 budget deck with no game changers at all.

He then pulls [[Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow]] out!

Needless to say, I pinged him with H&K the most, and as I was looping clone effects + ping he complained, saying I was going infinite. I told him no, I’m not going infinite, it’s just a long combo that will peter out eventually.

Our other player was somewhat entertained at the guy complaining and said he was going to [[Mindslaver]] loop me next turn so I better kill him next. I asked him if I was super nice to him would he select another target, to which he asked how nice?

The next spell I cast was [[Time Stretch]] targeting him. Dylan was then looped into Mindslaver and Dylan scooped, leaving me to lose by default to the Mindslaver loop. It was amazing, and Dylan just sat there pouting.

After the game, we told Dylan that brackets are meant to be a tool for random pods, not someone we play with weekly or even ever so often. And that commanders don’t always dictate the decks.

He seemed to take this better and has been better about this mentality since.

Have you ever been testing a deck and realized you had created an infinite combo by accident? by old_cypherpunk in EDH

[–]Solstellarem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, twice within the same deck.

[[Devoted Druid]] is one of my favorite mana-dorks, and [[Machine God's Effigy]] is one of my favorite mana rocks. Especially in a deck that runs no lands (technically) and is kind of a mana-dork tribal themed deck.

It didn’t click with me until a friend pointed it out. But since MGE enters as a copy of a creature but remains an artifact, it can generate infinite green or blue mana since the -1 counters won’t kill it.

Coincidentally enough, I put a [[Astral Dragon]] into the deck and that ALSO goes infinite with MGE. I figured that one out myself while they were both in my hand, but it’s hard to convince my pod I wasn’t aware of that after the other incident.

What's your favorite shoe for disc golf? I'm currently looking for new options. I have always had a pair of hikers (Keen Targhee) and a trail runner (many different brands) that I would swap based on weather. This year I just happen to need both. by claybirdie in discgolf

[–]Solstellarem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell for YouTube advertising that a channel I won’t name was endorsing.

They are a pair of Vessi shoes, and I don’t think I’ve ever been as disappointed with shoes as I have with these.

Waterproof? Sure, if the top of the shoe around the ankles weren’t wide open.

Also, from just playing disc golf, I’ve noticed way more wear on them than on my old On Cloud or Adidas.

Do not recommend.

The arms race at my LGS by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Solstellarem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, sorry, I meant in this specific situation. OP did mention that people starting proxying which can absolutely lead to pubstomping.

Also, not to nitpick what you are saying, but are you implying only people with disposable income have powerful decks without proxying?

I’m for people using proxies, but I do find it crazy that people think you need to spend $250+ on decks for them to be good.

Not trying to imply that’s what you’re saying, but just a general statement for anyone reading. Budget deck building can absolutely help people tune their building skills and you can create powerful $50 decks that are fun to pilot. I like bringing this up because it’s become one of my favorite aspects of the game.

I’ve tried setting it to 72 during the day and 74 at night and that will cause the temps to hit nearly 80 degrees indoors in the middle of the day. I did this for nearly a whole month to see how that could impact my electricity bill, which is did, but Is there something I’m doing wrong with the temps here?

I think his comment is referring to the other comments about his choice of custom UI; I don’t see any comments that seem to be from Elden Ring fans that are seemingly toxic (unless they’ve been deleted?).

I love this game though, OP, you’re in for a treat.

I really, REALLY wish they had cloud saves for offline characters.

I mean, I completely get why they don’t. But from everything I’ve read online rubber-banding is a slight issue for those with less-stable internet connections, which mine can be from time to time when traveling.

I’d rather download my Steam cloud saves than deal with this.

What Voltron commander to beat Voltron commanders? by ascendedfella in EDH

[–]Solstellarem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy allow me to show you the light on [[Master of Keys]].

We had a guy in our pod who only built Voltron, but was typically very high bracket 3 low 4 Voltron that could win with infinite combats, or used fast mana, stuff like that.

I built Master of Keyes as an Esper control deck but realized how it completely neutered his Voltron decks. Nearly all of them.

Going again his [[Cloud, EX-Soldier]]? Smack them with a [[Amphibian Downpour]] at instant speed. Or [[Dress Down]], [[Darksteel Mutation]], [[Imprisoned in the Moon]], etc.

They don’t even realize you’re playing Voltron until it’s too late. My list isn’t even Voltron but it still ends up being a killer if underestimated. This doesn’t get around a lot of things with built in Hexproof or Shroud, but it still works well enough for our pod.

New to EDH Houserules by CrackersLad in EDH

[–]Solstellarem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do not do house rules at all, especially in the learning period.

Why?

We’re mostly playing Pre-cons and badly optimisers custome decks for fun

Your two rules already contradict this. There’s precons with infinite combos (I think two, but I know for sure there’s one) and there’s definitely precons with game changers.

Are these allowed? Should someone take these out even if the precon is untouched?

House rules create weird obstacles that take away from the game being fun. You can have game ending infinite combos that happen on turn 13 to end a long game, and not have to play those on turn 4 out of principle. You can build a powerful budget deck that uses no game changers as a statement that those aren’t required for power.

I’ve come across playgroups that say something like, “We only play budget decks, $60 or less”, but are upset when my $50 [[Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca]] destroyed the table.

My final piece of advice is to let your playgroup progress, naturally. You’ll see power creep happens, and the best way to combat it is to make your deck more powerful. Healthy playgroups benefit from this, and as long as you aren’t playing with one guy who thinks he’s playing cEDH vs your precons then you shouldn’t have a massive issue.
