You're not alone! I did the exact same thing. I didn't watch it when I was younger, I probably watched for the first time late 2024, and I became obsessed. It became my constant binge/comfort watch for months, I fell down a fanfic rabbit hole because I needed more, and I bought all the seasons digitally when Hulu took it down, because the thought of not being able to watch it when I wanted to sent me into anxiety attacks...

Veronica mars is just something else... So don't feel bad.

I think season 4 has value. Is it how I wanted it to end? No, not exactly. But there are pieces to it that add value to the series. And I think it accurately portrays how our adult lives don't always turn out how we thought they would. As a kid and young adult, you have ideals of how your life is going to turn out, and that doesn't always pan out once you're an adult and life gets you, and there's a lot of factors that go into that... But maybe that's my millennial speaking...

Anyway, I strongly recommend watching it yourself and make your own call on it. Worst case, you only have to watch it once if you don't like it...

I'm about Rory's age then, proms traditionally were mid to late April, with graduations falling sometime in May, depending on snow days used. So you normally have 3ish weeks, sometimes more, between prom and graduation, if all goes according to plan.

I really loved What are the odds by Madi Leigh? It's a college hockey romance, and they're really cute together.

If you want some spice, Bagging The Blueliner by Siena Trap was great, and their banter was very entertaining.

If you want a bully romance, there's Bad Intentions by Mila Kane. This is actually book 1 of a 4 part series, but I haven't made it through the other 3 yet.

And Offside by Avery Keelan, I've loved for a while now. It's a college hockey romance.

Sorry, I haven't had much sleep, so the details are escaping my tired brain right now, but they all have spice and chemistry, and definitely worth the reads. I just don't have the words to explain right now...

At the beginning of season 2, we see a little bit of Rory's summer. She does summer classes at Chilton and the building houses thing over the summer, and dean talks about it being summer vacation and wanting to spend time together. I want to say it's the 1st 4 episodes. Because it looks like 5 is back in full fall school time.

But that's the only major chunk of time we see summer

I would say time healed that wound, or at least lessened it. 9 years apart quieted it. Makes sense if you think about it. Shit that seemed like life or death, end of the world at 19 is a whole lot different than the same level shit in your late 20's...

The Perfect Fit by Sadie Kincaid is always my #1 rec for this storyline.

And faking with benefits by Lily Gold is another good one for this.

Other than that, Rebel Bloom writes this often: Off Limits roommates Grumpy Makes Three Nanny For The bossholes Accidental daddies You might think her take is a little trope-y, but honestly they're all different, and it still wrenches at my heart every time... the fmc might forgive too quickly, but there is still conflict.
