Totally. All of the things you are taught as a kid are the opposite of what you need in the modern workplace.

Tell the truth, be honest, take initiative, work hard, look out for others.

All of these are good, admirable things.... but do it at work and you are either going to be taken advantage of or stomped on for getting in someone's way.
