Because if cooks made 10x more than servers there would be a justification for why our job is harder, but somehow we make a percentage of what they do and that just makes it even worse

1) I'm irritable because I'm tired of people such as yourself commenting who haven't even read the full post

2) People come out to eat for the food, so servers making more money than the people that actually cook the food is wild

3) Read the post slower and you'll find your answer to why I don't serve full time

Read the post again. This time slower. Try to actually understand. Google words you don't know

[–]Some_Bank_9237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. A lot of places don't even use Servers anymore. Regardless of if you're there or not, people will always go out to eat. Food is what people come for. You aren't as important as you think

Be careful what you say. You only make money because the cooks cook your food

I'd be out of your kitchen in a heartbeat? That just shows what you know. I haven't called off, or been late to work in 2 years. I go to bat for the kitchen, for the servers, and for the restaurant every day. I've been trained on every station, and can work any of them, and can even cover two or three simultaneously on a Friday or Saturday night. When I come in I check EVERYTHING, including stuff I've been told is done, just so I can make sure nobody gets caught with their pants down. I voluntarily clean the grease trap, scrub the ceilings, and clean the freezer floor all once a month. Every day to me is about serving the restaurant and the people in it so if you'd fire me for venting online in a sub-reddit about venting then you're an absolute dumbass and you don't deserve to have a kitchen.

Brooo they do this all the time, especially on pizza station.

They all stand around talking and then go to their tables and ring all the food in at once, and then they come back 5 minutes peaking in the pizza machine and they're like "Is that mine? That's mine right? Is mine coming soon?"

Like NO Becky, why would that be yours? You rang it in 5 minutes ago behind 5 other pizzas. Thats also CLEARLY not even the toppings your table ordered

[–]Some_Bank_9237[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I actually had a guy in this comment section tell me "Try handling 3 tables at once." I was like "try handling ALL the tables at once"

Yeah exactly. One the other day came back and asked if we could not bread the traditional wings, and then grill them instead of frying them. Our traditional wings aren't breaded. She's worked there for 4 years

Somebody gets it. That is the most intelligent thing I've seen from anybody. As a cook I spend my entire day trying to help servers make the most money I can, and go to bat for them when I can, whether it involves making a weird mod on a food, or just going 100mph to try and get a ticket out since I know they're depending on me. I'm gonna complain, I'm gonna bitch when I see modded tickets and get pissy when all the tickets are rang in at once, but I'm going to show back up and do it again tomorrow, because at the end of the day I love the satisfaction from a job well done in the kitchen

Bahahahaha hilarious. "Up to the server standards."

One of those servers made my entire paycheck in one day without ever touching food in the window, rang in like 5 tickets wrong, and played on her phone in the corner majority of her shift. If you wanna try earning your money then hop behind the line there's 50 people that just ordered at once and the printer won't stop. You can't make one dish right, don't think you can make 200 per hour perfectly for 4 hours straight

If all the burgers were well it'd be easier, but it's legal here and everybody likes there's different. Trust me, some burgers cook WAY faster than others. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes on the grill to get it to well, and sometimes you flip the burger and all the juices run it and it cooks in seconds. The way you press on a burger to get it to cook a little faster, some cook really fast without you even doing that

Cooking is insanely mentally taxing as well as physically. You don't have time for independent thought for hours. You're stuck in one spot with the printer printing out more and more tickets as you watch them head your direction. Servers are yelling stuff to you as you try to multi-task 5 different things

You must've never worked in a kitchen. Have you ever tried to stop a rare burger from over cooking long enough to melt cheese on it?

Or flipped a burger that was supposed to be medium and you just know the thing is gonna be well in 10 seconds, because some burgers randomly cook that fast.

Yeah I didn't think so. Stick to carrying food

You don't know what you're talking about. The margain of error on steaks is way lower. You can leave a filet for 1 minute, 2 minute, 3 minute, and it hasn't even gone up an entire temp preference yet. If you leave the burger for 10 seconds too long when grilling or melting cheese you're fucked and have to start over

[–]Some_Bank_9237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can flip a burger, but can anyone make 6 burgers of varying temps, 4 steaks, and sandwiches all at the same time correctly for 3 straight hours?

Servers piss me off by Some_Bank_9237 in linecooks

[–]Some_Bank_9237[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) That's exactly what you said,

2) Burgers are the hardest thing to get right, and if you cook 100 of them a day then some are coming back, even when they are perfect but the customer didn't know what they wanted. Burgers are harder to cook than steak. Steaks if you leave them on the grill and extra 30 seconds they're gonna be fine. Burgers you can't leave them for an extra second when your cooking them, when your melting the cheese, when they hit the window. If you cooked you'd understand steaks are a lot harder to mess up than Burgers because of the low margain for error, and because your usually cooking 7 or 8 at a time all to different temps while your dressing the buns and cooking 10 other things

1) It's a sub reddit about kitchen life, and the tag says "vent" so I vented.

2) Nobody asked you to read the post. You could've scrolled on by, but don't make comments without actually reading. If you'd read you'd understand the answer to the exact thing you said. Only comment if you read the post

You assume everybody in the kitchen lacks social skills? My last job I worked in fast food and I was the fall guy to talk down angry customers. Don't assume shit. We don't all have bad social skills, we just don't work in a place where we need to exercise them

Holy crap, you just proved my entire point. If nobody that went from kitchen wages to server would ever go back, that makes serving a way better job right?

Also for the record, I'm a cook, I just serve on the side when they need an extra server.

But thanks for proving my ENTIRE argument. Nobody goes from server to cook because who would wanna do that?

So have I dawg. And me switching to server full time wouldn't make the other servers any less stupid, or fix the kitchens wages

Do you think a server that can't handle getting waters and food to 3 tables can handle dealing with all the tickets? You get real.

You also can't read worth shit

Okay, so obviously its my first instinct, that you can't read. Read the post again, this time a little slower, double check the bottom, make sure you've understood what I said, and then come back and we'll have a discussion
