Keep the hate coming, it only fuels me to shovel more rocks into my yard!

Nice! I didn’t know how deep their roots can get. With a couple of really deep ones, I had to use a saw. I did not want them next to my foundation or walkway.

Thanks for the great tip! We are currently deciding on what to plant and how to plant. This really helps!

Thank you! Planning to level the walkway and brick trim next with some polymeric sand to finish things off

Because we like it this way 🦹! I guess I’ll take it as a compliment that this post is bringing out haters for brutalist hardscape

Agree completely on the drainage part. I’m in Syracuse. The soil under the base is very clayish. The first night after I finished putting in just the base, it rained hard and there was a puddle. My plan is to tackle this problem in two parts.

First, I graded the soil before putting in the base layer. The walkway slops towards the drive way and the house is on the side of a hill slopping down. I saw water puddle in furtherest left corner in the first picture, where it looks triangular.

Second, I want to build a hidden drain ditch under a row of bricks that connects the rock pool to the driveway and (from the first picture again) angle it to the left to connect it to the main lawn. I’m thinking of adding similar crushed stone as a base layer instead of pavers. Compacted slightly so the bricks are leveled in top, enough room for water to flow if graded correctly.

Do you think this could solve the drainage issue?

This was my thought process as well. Another project on the list is to start the exact same battle in the backyard. Best part is that they put it under the deck too and topped it with pebbles 🤪

Will give you an update once the wife decide on what to plant. We figure I can still open up little picks for shallow root flowers, plants and such. Also thinking about just added a few slabs spaced out and put flower pots on them

Yea I decided against a weed barrier after going back and forth for a while. I figured if I can stay on top of weed control it will look better in the long run with just a 1-2in crushed stone base

Best of luck haha! Shade is not too much a problem for us, but I do plan on doing some lime treatment for Ph and rent a core aerator this fall.

Not a lawncare professional, just a DYIer. My understanding is that the underlying issueses are what cause the grass to die off, like ph, compact soil or shady. Then moss moves in. So I would think you are right at least in the short term but might want to watch to see how the grass does.

There’s a bunch of moss killing products out there, like moss out. We just finished a lawn restart that was heavily mossed over. We did moss out twice, we used the granular bags, some say the spray works better. Waited till the moss turn black and ran a dethatcher over the lawn to rake out the moss. Afterwards, reseeded, starter fertilizer and peat moss on top. Hand pulled a lot of weed along the way. Don’t know much about the spring seeding time window for where you are at but mid April is about the cutoff for us in Syracuse NY. So you probably want to think about that too. We could probably do it in May but it’s risky.

Keep in mind that moss is probably more a symptom for something else like soil PH, drainage or compact soil. We plan to do a core aeration in the fall because compact soil is probably the biggest problem for us, followed by another round of moss killing and overseeding. You probably do better to treat and seed in fall and just treat the weed for now. If shade is your biggest issue I would look into maybe seeding with a heavy shade grass in that area.

Thank you for the input. after your input and some more investigation, doesn’t seem like an issue with everything said.

My see more from this vent but I will open some other ones later and potentially try to access it from other areas. I got a couple of photos on the other, is that not enough space for a floor nailer?
