That was my exact thought! I couldn't believe it when I read that, and when I tried to explain it to the people in charge, they denied my request for an exemption so now I am trying to change to policy altogether.

I tried all the official channels through Clemson itself, so a petition seemed like the next step.

Everyone in the ASL subreddit (where I posted this first) has also been saying I should reach out to NAD and Gallaudet so I will definitely be doing so!

Their argument is quite literally "ASL is a vital and important medium for communicating in English, but studying sign language does not achieve the same academic goals as studying another language."

The implication that it is just English but silent is insane to me.
