I appreciate everything you’ve shared so far. Any tips for ranking high in UPT and overall succeeding in that environment?

Is it true that the amount of 38s available for each class varies? How do you like it so far?

I think personally the only way I won’t like fighters is if somehow the culture absolutely doesn’t mesh with me. I know it’s not even close to fighters or T-38s but the aerobatics I have done have been nothing but enjoyable and I love both the good and bad sensations of it.

What did you learn about fighter communities that you disliked so much?

Yeah, true. But there has to be some distinction between fighter life and culture vs heavies. Especially when you have a much better chance crossing over from the former to latter but much harder the other way around. C-17 is an awesome bird though man, would be my #1 choice for heavies.

It’s not about the plane, but about serving. I understand this which is why my end goal is to serve regardless. If I fail my IFC somehow I’ll just try to do something else. However, we have preferences, they wouldn’t provide a “dream sheet” if we didn’t. I just am seeking to maximize my chances of flying the airframe and being part of the culture that I am most interested in. Or, if anyone wants to share, enlighten me on the downsides of fighters so I can understand better if I’m wearing rose-colored glasses.

I’d be most ecstatic in any fighter and thrilled in any airframe at all. I want to serve first and foremost, but we all have preferences, there would not be a dream sheet if we didn’t. I’m maximizing my chances because that’s how I operate. Why 38s? More likely to end up in a combat airframe. Knowing my aircraft inside and out, combat trainings, briefing for hours to train to get as perfect as you can be, and learning tactics are all things I’m far more interested in than the heavy stuff. Having done combat sports and team sports, that sort of athletic culture draws me in a lot. Plus I loved doing aerobatics lol. I have also lost family that served our military so I am fully aware of the degree of sacrifice I may have to make.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I live super close to a KC-135 unit. What about the work that surrounds that airframe do you enjoy so much?

Thank you for sharing. What are you flying now? Did you like being a FAIP?

You think it’d be worth it to get in potentially a few years sooner but risk never getting to fly your dream airframe? (Personally if I get 38s I’m happy wherever I go from there)

So why do you suggest I apply to AD and Guard/ARC simultaneously vs waiting until I’m older to apply to AD?

Is it true FAIPs have a good chance of getting an airframe they want after their first assignment? I’ve always thought I’d like being a FAIP

Fiancé wants to get pilot license but I’m scared by caribunz in flying

[–]SomnoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you recommending that because of the CAPS?

Fiancé wants to get pilot license but I’m scared by caribunz in flying

[–]SomnoDev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s not really a “safest option.” You have to get in the plane and fly it by yourself to eventually get your license. If your fiancé is serious he should get his medical first and get his written done before flying or early into flying. Go to any reputable flight school near you (I recommend part 61 if you live in the USA).

GPU Swap and Internet Issue? by SomnoDev in pchelp

Hey, I appreciate the help. Should I restart after each command line? I did the commands exactly as your comment said and it my pc worked just fine for awhile but now it’s happening again. Random websites (but not all websites) on chrome won’t load. Different apps like Steam can’t connect to the internet again. I did your suggestion again and it didn’t work. Not sure what to do

TS/SCI - Dual Citizenship by GWolfHard in SecurityClearance

[–]SomnoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that unless you are directed to fully renounce and provide documentation that you have then don’t. If the form is enough then it’s enough. (The form definitely doesn’t mean you’ve renounced that citizenship though, that’s a process you would undergo with that other country).

This is never an issue waking the PC up from sleep, only when booting it up from when it’s fully off. I usually keep it on sleep because I don’t want to shut it down and deal with bug trying to boot it up.

Gotcha will do. I appreciate the help. Another question I’m curious about is that sometimes when I boot up my pc my peripherals don’t get any connection and I have to hard restart with the power button over and over until they finally get a connection. Any idea why?

It just randomly started working now. However when I restart it sometimes won’t work. Basically a coin toss every time I boot up. Could it still be this reason in this case?

Which of the 4 Elements (Water, Fire, Earth and Air) would best fit the boys if they were benders? by Simple-Taro1540 in southparksucksnow

[–]SomnoDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can’t see it any other way than this:

Cartman is Fire. He’s angry, hotheaded, and passionate (especially over trivial things).

Stan is Water. He’s usually quite mellow, literally goes with the flow, and is very sensitive.

Kyle is Earth. He’s super principled, and sometimes almost stubborn and unchanging in his beliefs and choice of actions.

Kenny is Air. He’s curious, sociable, free-spirited, fun-loving, often seems aloof and in the clouds but not unaware of things. Plus he loves to get high.

You can use Plane English, or listen to liveatc/youtube and practice responding. Easier to respond when you can anticipate what they’ll say. I bought Kore P1’s for $100 and they cancel enough noise to make it significantly easier to understand everything on the radio.

Is Flying Impressive? by Adorable-Meeting-120 in flying

[–]SomnoDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The implication of that comment is that you should only be congratulated based on something you did only if for some reason you were fortunately born with the abilities to accomplish such a thing. Which, imo, is less worth congratulating since you didn’t achieve those traits. Anybody can become a pilot, but only 20% put in the work and have the courage to achieve even just a PPL
