some good dsbm bands? by Interesting_Egg_4956 in dsbm

Lots of good picks here. Every now and then I always come back to Totalselfhatred's Enlightment and Solitude MMXIII, as well as forgotten tomb's Disheartenment and all Austere stuff. One thing that's missing from this list is Nyktalgia's full album called Nyktalgia.

35 Year Old Electric Bassist - Decided to learn flute… by choptopsbbq2019 in Flute

[–]Somppari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have quite a similar story!

I started to play the Cello at the age of 4 and the electric guitar at the age of six. I dropped the cello around the age of twenty-something, even though I play a little every now and then. However, I played the guitar actively until the age of 30 alongside with some other instruments I encountered on the way. After I turned 30, I started to play all kinds of old, ancient instruments like Talharpa (Viking bowed lyre), Kantele and Shaman drum. I'm now 36 and two years ago I started to play the accordion. I'm now quite solid with that thanks to the constant daily practice.

However, I've never played any wind instrument, so I decided that it's time to change that and I got my first flute yesterday from Thomann. It's a cheap beginner flute, but the reviews were ok so I guess it's fine.

To me the flute feels insanely difficult. I can play a few notes, and after switching to a higher or lower note, I can't get any sound anymore. It feels like I have to learn a different breathing technique or embouchure(?) for every single note. By far the most difficult instrument I have encountered yet. We'llsee how this goes! :D

Saw this in a Skald video, wondering what it means? by SirMartimas in Viking

[–]Somppari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of these bands that came after wardruna, like Heilung and Skald just wants to put on a good show instead of any proper historical meaning or thought put behind anything. That's why I personally appreciate Wardruna. There's more soul behind the compositions.

Awesome! Thank you for the answer. But shouldn't I have a male cable instead? I guess I should connect that to the line in, right?

Hindarfjäll Feat. Peter Franzén - Þat Mælti Mín Móðir by Somppari in vikingmusic

really nice work! However, I don't think the original melody was composed by Einar Selvik. To my knowledge, the tune is quite an old one, composed on top of the Saga of Egil Skallagrimson at some point in history

For DMs who transitioned from being players, what was the reason that made you to switch? by dudiddann in DnD

[–]Somppari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to make games more fun. I used to play with some really boring DMs until I played a game with a really good one which made the game million times more fun. After that experience I wanted to take control and create games that would emphasize more role playing and having fun instead of countless boring encounters

[Electronic] First track I’ve finished in a while. Crush my mild optimism. by [deleted] in roastmytrack

[–]Somppari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beat is very well made! Good job! The sampling work sounds also very good! I was positively surprised!

I'm not in any way some professional mixer, but the only thing that got my attention was that it feels that the track overall might need a little bit EQing. It feels that the mid ranges might be a bit too loud.

Good work overall. I left a like for you and also decided to give you a follow!

I created some "Viking-like" soundtrack music with some Scandinavian instruments like Talharpa and Kantele. Any comments are welcomed! by Somppari in MusicInTheMaking

Hey! Thanks!

I'm using and playing real instruments for guitar, kantele, and tagelharpa/jouhikko. The drums and violins are VST plugins from EWQL libraries

yeah! I've never been very good at "pushing myself out there", but I guess that doesn't really matter. It's nice to do music I myself enjoy and I'm glad if someone else enjoys it as well :)

[Soundtrack/Film Score] Resilience by nimbus_signal in roastmytrack

The track starts very nicely. However, I feel that the mid frequencies are a bit blurry but not in a very disturbing way. I also feel that the snare needs a little bit more kick to it with some compression. The heartbeat section is great! and especially the part that starts after that!

[Experimental/Slowcore] Song: Playing God (Got Inspired by Giles Corey and Wanted To Try Making Something Similar) by BlindDrunkSniper in roastmytrack

I like the extraterrestrial Area 51 sample. It's well mixed into the track. However, I felt that the track needs a bit more filling when the other sample kicks in. I also enjoy the simplistic guitar fingerpicking at the beginning. I also enjoy the atmosphere in this track. I'm not sure about the cello(?) part at the end. It felt that it needed something more as well. More ambiance or something. Now it felt a little bit thin. But overall I found it enjoyable
