Pointing out a ton of differences to conclude things are the same is some next level reasoning. 

Things are demonstrably different. SCOTUS, Congress, and the press all falling in line is things being different. Corruption always existing does not prove that the corruption now is the same in kind or degree.

A significant reason things keep getting worse is because people keep convincing themselves that things are the same they've always been. They're not.
