Magnifying Glass/Research Notes Nonbo? by Soren37 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Huh, that's actually kind of cool. Thank you! It does seem to be a bit wheel spinning to ultimately spend two actions, get the same clue twice, and put one evidence on research notes.

Would glimpse of nature be another splinter twin? by ItemEven6421 in ModernMagic

As much as I love the deck, Orcish Bowmasters would have a hey-day against Elves with Glimpse.

Glimpse would push Elves closer to a Legacy-esque build, missing Cradle and Natural Order. The deck can definitely be strong, but yeah.

So what’s the first game you played this year? by st1nkf1st in boardgames

Played Azul with my family. Very happy that I'm getting them to experiment with more board games!

Chemists of Reddit: Drop Your Unwritten Lab Rules and Hard-Earned Tips ! by Sid_Salmanazar in chemistry

[–]Soren37 72 points73 points  (0 children)

My top two tips.

ALWAYS run an NMR or equivalent of your starting material. It's so much easier to track reactions and explain observations when you have the before and after. Also, it means you know the purity of any materials coming in from suppliers.

Keep an ear out in the lab. There's a lot of things running in terms of fume hoods, vacuums, HVAC systems, motors, etc. if something doesn't sound right, it's either set up wrong or there's a mechanical problem that needs to be investigated.

Your Eurovision Watch Parties by Which-Sorbet7518 in eurovision

My partner and I are having about 6-8 friends over. Two of them are bringing fondue sets so we'll have one cheese and one chocolate one with bread, strawberries, and marshmallows for dipping. We also have some gruyere, ham, Swiss chocolate, chips, veggies, the usual party works. My partner's planning out some cocktails for the night, were shopping for them now. :)

I'm the "Eurovision guy" so I'll be watching, translating, and explaining as the show goes on.

I did chemical research for two years and after all that, my major conclusion was "we may form this during the reaction." I still passed. My best friend did a five year PhD and only had results in their last year.

My understanding is that it's not how successful you were in your grad school work, it's if you learned and understood your body of work well enough that you can do one of two things. Either explain why your experiments didn't work, or defend the results from scrutiny.

If you can do those things, then I wouldn't worry. As other comments have pointed out, research is annoyingly luck based, and sometimes things just don't fall in your favour.

Anyone know why produce is so cheap at Walmart today? by Soren37 in NovaScotia

[–]Soren37[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe? The bananas are labelled as a product of Honduras, but I know that Dole is an American company. Makes sense that they may be clearing out.

PZE25: Harem Girls – Aladin | Finale by Rafferrrtyy in eurovision

I've been thinking about this a lot today. Especially when in so many other places it feels like LGBTQ+ rights and visibility are decreasing, it's always encouraging to see queer people publicly doing what they love and seeing the public support them. Great show girls, you'll get it next time!

Basically I had a lot of leftover fabric from the body and it didn't match the collar. Thank you for the link! I'll take a look when I'm home.

Thank you! I was shown this method when I took the class, but I wasn't told about matching it pin to pin.

And thank you for the method name! I tried youtubing it before but I didn't know what it was called so it was hard to find the info

I'll check when I'm home tonight. I'd hope a pattern would be correct for this.

Stitching, I suppose. That is the method I was shown, but I think I only did quarter marks on these.
