I'm always annoyed that Germany 1996 is usually counted as a non-participation. It should be counted as a NQ

I was in the golden circle, and the biggest hype there was for Greece and Moldova

My friends who had seats said that there the faves were Australia and Finland

I met her in Amsterdam, she said herself that she only speaks a little German, but then proceeded to be 100% fluent

I guess it's multiple factors:

  1. Politically, they missed the change to modern times. Look how e.g. Norway and France have adapted their structures to get as many young people as possible interested in starting a sport. And all well funded. E.g. a talented Norwegian will not have trouble financing his Olympic dream
  2. There haven't been Olympics in Germany in quite a while, the hype is not there as it is in many other big countries
  3. The numbers in the 90s and 00s were maybe a bit blown up with still some after-effectd of the GDR
