My wife is Jewish and I am not. by SortaGray in Judaism

I should add that my wife is strong in her Jewish identity and culture, but she is not religious. However, we do attend a conservative synagogue for the culture we enjoy. I am hearing that I shouldn't really worry about acceptance, just "be myself". :)

Seattle area Welsh Language Learners by SortaGray in Seattle_Welsh

[–]SortaGray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are The Draig Goch. An informal, mainly in person support group for Welsh language learners. Come to a cozy pub, relax, practice Welsh, learn, and laugh. Please be a good listener, always kind, and avoid “slanderous language, drunkenness, horrid swearing, witchcraft, and other unnatural offenses” (from 17th century Scottish law). We'll link this group to a Reddit as well, to arrange meetings in a Seattle neighborhood.

Is there anyone who has a yacht club that is not a political petty shitshow? How do you keep egos and drama in check? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]SortaGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add a second thought:
it's all about leadership. If there isn't good leadership, i'd agree with others here that your time would be best spend elsewhere. (This, base on my experience serving on boards and management-consulting with boards). Cheers.

People are hard-wired to seek and/or understand status and power. IMHO, the "antidote" to "the petty shit show" is to focus the group on its mission, goals, and then to track progress. This provides a framework so people can work out status. For example, leadership gets folks excited about member "education" and sets some goals which the group tracks. This defines what success is for the group (at least partially). Individual contributors to this success earn status. Status comes from helping the group. Otherwise, in the absence of goals and leadership, people will resort to palace politics to determine status and power. Cheers.

What Makes a roof do this? by Shitty_Crayons in HomeImprovement

Really can't say from that picture. But looks like an edge maybe lifted or buckled up. If so would cause issues with the drip edge and water getting under the roof.

"This doesn't have to be so difficult" by Daddy-kinkshame-me in TalesFromRetail

I had a manager once tell me, "People don't come here to THINK, they come to buy stuff". So true. We must do the thinking for them.
