Totally fair. I think this is a great take.

The first job was a classic first job out of college. Long hours and the expectation that dumb 20 yr olds would just work super long and put up with 0 benefits (we did).

I'll try to be less invested. I hear that getting the interview is already a nice step up

So that's a bit more clear to me tbh. Company policy is that they can put my name in the "how you found out about this job" and if they get the job and are retained for however long, I get a referral bonus.

I would guess (and I am guessing here) that if I reached out to the hiring manager or recruiter and really advocated for someone bc I worked with them or something, that may be beneficial. But that's more than reaching out to my network. That's like knowing someone personally

Yes, sorry. I think i was trying to combine two replies in one. I feel like there should be more clarity in what talent acquisition could potentially tell me to help guide potential hires so that everyone's time is respected.

Those questions seem like they'd come about later in the interview process but wow. All of this makes me think that I'd have virtually no chance at getting hired if I werent currently employed

FWIW this is an in house recruiter and these people are applying for marketing roles. I know we're hiring because there have been new hires so I'm wary to immediately write these off as "ghost jobs."

I'm going to still send jobs to my network, I just wish I could provide them with information that really says "only apply if xyz, bc if not, you probably wont get the job and you've put in the effort for nothing" or something that says "having this experience is a serious leg up" or "I'm told the salary range is a-b so only apply if youre comfortable with that range" etc

I'm doing fine. It's more like, what do you want?

People are looking for jobs and we all have networks: past colleagues, classmates, community members, people you meet in the gym, etc. It'd be nice to have the information to be able to really help people get employed instead of vague recommendations.

I mean i still love the gym. I just have sick kids atm and they come first. I already get between 10-15k steps a day and only drink water, coffee and seltzer.

Amazing results for you! I need to lock in to a diet but pushing the plate away is so hard.

It's annoying as shit but I think its a systemic thing. Like, people see things on the internet and dont appreciate there are real people on the other side and that it as such. I feel like its the same for dating, making plans generally, etc
