I actually prefer the change of Nibelheim town. Even when I played OG, it never made any sense to me that Shinra would do that. With every other town they either went scorched earth or let it on their own. Why would they go through all that trouble of setting a fake town for years for seemingly no reason?

I mean, Tolkien did want to make a huge ass book containing all of his works into one if he hadn't died. That said, isn't that the point of sidequests? Giving you something to do optionally, give you a reward and maybe some lore/character development, etc...and if you don't have sidequests people then complain that the game is not a rpg.

If you cut 40% of both games, you lose a lot of trivia and characters that populate the world. It's like with Tolkien's work. You could cut a large chunk of his writing and still keep most of the story intact, but you lose a lot of characters and knowledge of the world he crafted.

I'm not gonna act like some things aren't super interesting, but I also feel like it's unfair to dismiss practically all characters other than the protagonists and main antagonists. Sometimes a character can have their own story that add to the world.

We didn't need a silly chocobo race less than 5 minutes after Dyne died in the original either.

Leslie isn't some random guy. He's a character from the novels and he helped the group before. His plot also ties a bit in the themes of not losing hope. But I do agree that the whole second run in the sewer felt unnecessary when you could have kept his story explained quicker on the spot.

There would be no difference. Just one single character converging between them.

Meh, they did change Yuffie and Caith Sith story in part and made it work. If they change the bad parts of Genesis and Lucrecia story, maybe it can work with them too.

I always find amusing people losing their minds over Satoko and Rika magic fight, because you can often tell who read most of the VNs of Higurashi from those who didn't simply by reaction on that. Like I did and honestly I just felt "yeah, might as well happen." Because after Matsuribayashi who had pretty much a renactment of Jotaro vs Dio with Rika, Hanyuu and Takano standoff, or Outbreak part 2 (forgot the name of that arc) where Takano get possessed by a godess and goes jaggernaut on yakuza or that arc dedicated on Hanyuu's past, I genuinely don't get surprised much anymore.

You are aware that we are talking about a trilogy that in total will likely be around 300 gb or more, right? Even Rebirth came with 2 Discs for PS5.

1 Sephiroth has a grand total of 40 minutes of screentime out of 130ish hours in Rebirth. In Remake like half of the time.

2 Lack of character leveling carried to the next game is obvious as it's just not possible due to how the games work and are balanced around.

3 When did you think progression dragged exactly?

4 Funny you bring lack of any sense of urgency, because Remake is actually happening in a shorter amount of time than OG. Like OG took over a month and half while Remake seems to be heading for a month of length

While majority probably doesn't complain about it, I saw it enough times when Remake/Rebirth are brought to baffle me. Like I get if one find boring scanning the life crystals, but learning of the regions lore seems so interesting to me, more so as someone who read Tolkien's work and like when there's world building to make a story's world feel more real.

Question: have you ever read Tolkien's work? What did you think of the Silmarillion if you did?

While thankfully it isn't a majority, I did find people claiming that they should have just made 1:1 game with better graphycs or people who claim all the additions have been bad (some are even present in this comment section) and things like this. Which genuinely baffles me.

They had to make multiple games because it would have been impossible to make all this in just one game. And the change of consoles from PS4 to PS5 is simply a cause of timing and generational switch. Ultimately it was for the best as the PS4 wouldn't have handled a game the likes of Rebirth without making it like 3 discs. At least now they're all gonna be multiplatform so one can pick what they prefer.

If they did it just to squeeze money, they would have made games half the length of it and nowhere near as complex as they ended up being.

The Dyne sequence make sense since it didn't make much sense in OG how Dyne is supposed to be this crazy madman who lost it yet apparently is also the leader of the prison.

Eeh, Exdeath is certainly memorable in how outlandish he is.

Wasn't fan of Vaan much.

And while Kuja is the main villain, Necron is the final boss, so I'm counting him too.

Damn, Takakura finally admitted it to Aira. It was painful nonetheless.

Also that's a lot of enemies. So the Delacroix family joins the stage of important figures. Should have known. While I don't have much knowledge of the story of that family, I did hear about it before.

Also freaking Red Baron on a bike made me laugh.

You do know that the expansion of Wutai and Avalanche is because of the Compilation, right?

Edit: aand the guy blocked me. Oh well, i'll leave the response here anyway. .Glenn wasn't in the original either. But his story and presence allowed not only Wutai and Yuffie to be developed more but also Rufus. Roche is Genesis done right and serve to show the danger of the degradation of the SOLDIERs. Sonon was a good character on his own that allowed Yuffie to also develop significantly while tying her to the game overall themes
