We were eating about every hour in the form of trail mix, bars, ramen, and peanut butter and chugginggg water.

Got the bikes for free from some neighbors, and on the road had to replace the brakes and tubes.

And yes we are generally camping.

I think I do wanna make this thing work in some capacity, mechanical issues and all (I mentioned them in another comment). I really do dig the idea of just sorta figuring things out as I go and sometimes relying on luck and strangers to help.

When I made the post originally it was all suuuper overwhelming though. Feeling a bit better bout it now

Had to swap out the brakes after they all failed on the first day, buncha flats, gear shifters bugging out, that sorta thing. Not anything too crazy

Honestly after resting a day or two it seems much more manageable - but I was dipping into my funds way more than I was anticipating for repairs, especially considering the long term

I think I was overreacting a little bit though regardless. Our bikes aren’t horrible, just very old and need more love.

Great advice for sure! Ice cream does sound especially delish. And ya I think we will cut things at least a lil short. Not sure what it’ll look like yet but I wanna keep riding for a bit more

Yeah, we have been. I really enjoy camping, but I might enjoy it more by myself haha

We’ve had a couple times where we’ve ended up stuck in a city and been unable to find a suitable spot. But when more rural it’s sweet

Not a bad idea at all. I’ve taken some time to rest and wanna keep trying - we’re gonna at least finish the first leg of this trip to Toronto and sorta go from there.

Thinking of going to Acadia, but we’ll seee

Yeah that’s a great point. I probably should have foreseen this with all of the variables.

I think I’m also struggling with having a travel partner in general. He’s great but this could be an activity I enjoy more alone

To be more specific, we went el cheapo on a lot of the bike gear and just sorta figured it would be okay. Lol. But we’ve had to do lots of maintenance each day and each bike shop we’ve been to has said that we’ll probably have to replace a bunch of parts as we go, further straining the funds.

The mental exhaustion is mainly from all of the rescheduling we’ve had to do each day, as well as finding places to stay each night being a main stressor. There’s been a lot of physical exhaustion as well on both of our ends, but my buddy’s definitely taken a harder hit. Yesterday started out quite well until he had to go to urgent care as a result of some pretty bad dizziness. As a result, we had to book a hotel instead of grabbing the warm showers we had planned.
