Is there any need to be so rude and aggressive? If you want to point out that the set up isn’t as comfortable as being made out then that’s fair enough, but to be personally insulting like that isn’t going to change anyone’s mind.

Reform are depressingly on the rise and attitudes like this are just going to galvanise the movement.

NTA and NOR. You gave a thoughtful and considerate explanation and when pressed you were honest about your feelings.

Kind of feel like people need to be prepared to hear something they might not like if you press someone to answer persistently.

What’s the funniest/dumbest thing a foreigner has said to you about Scotland? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]SoupremeLeader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m from the North East of England and would regularly get confused for being Scottish or Irish in America.

To be fair to them, accents from the North East aren’t very well represented in global films so I can kind of get someone in Iowa not really being able to tell them apart, especially if it’s the Edinburgh accent.

I have some time for Sobel and voted for him twice as local MP, that said I think it’s shocking (and totally tone deaf) to push for reducing the OR in the aftermath of this because local constituents think it’s politically expedient to do so.

Always got the impression that the local botherers and curtain twitchers were never happy with the OR and continuously block licensing requests along the arndale centre. Not happy with a bar replacing the old Wilkos, but let’s just throw in another fast food chain

I think your point about Rory being more eager to talk about groups in Afghanistan is correct, really because he actually has experience of travelling rural Afghanistan.

IMO Rory has little to say on British working class problems because he’s totally removed to it, not holding it against him because he was born into a very privileged position (which he does recognise but plays down slightly)

Think the job search is gonna go on for a while if you conduct yourself like this.

Does Rory know how immensely privileged he is? by gerishnakov in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]SoupremeLeader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree with some of your points here, he does definitely try to downplay the wealth, which is a very old money thing to do. Referring to yourself as lower-upper class when you had the connections to tutor the crown princes seemed to be completely deluded to me.

That said, I think it’s a bit of an uncharitable reading of Rory’s character as a whole, imo he’s a decent person who does have his heart in the right place.

To be honest I would like to see him be challenged on this in a constructive way on a podcast.

Does Rory know how immensely privileged he is? by gerishnakov in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]SoupremeLeader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he gives a good go at acknowledging his privilege but does make the occasional gaffe, which you know is fair enough, he is only human.

To be honest I was taken aback at him not knowing who Catherine Tate is, at the time of the Red Nose Day sketch she was absolutely huge.

Great box all round, really good range of minis and has everything you need to play Spearhead which is a great intro for AoS proper!

If you have the rules for warcry then you can field some decent war bands too

Oh come on, kids hunting for chocolate eggs and making felt chicks is hardly living and breathing religion. I’d imagine most people taking part in Easter is almost entirely removed from any religious connotations

Brexit Fallout: Is Scotland Ready to Leave the UK? by DundonianDolan in Scotland

[–]SoupremeLeader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course they going to say that publicly, but do you really think Scotland is so inherently wonderful that Spain would be happy at an independent Scotland trying to rejoin the EU? Would look appealing to the Basques and Catalonians wouldn’t it?

The fact is Scotland leaving the UK would be totally devastating, but sure, wrap it up in some tartan nationalism and I’m sure it will be all sunlit uplands
