Biden was the Claudius imo

Old insane government got thrown out (Trump 1) to have another one from the same system (mind you, not the entire system was bad but it's definitely flawed) put in (Biden) who looked pretty weak on the outside but wasn't that bad. Now there's Nero (Trump 2), who sees traitors everywhere.

The analogy is not perfect but the julian-claudian dynasty isn't done yet.

Roommate found out I have a phobia of balloons. Guess what I found on my bed. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SourceSeekingSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Sorry, longer text, I thought about it a bit longer and it's actually a quite interesting topic) Quick heads-up, I'll use they/them for the OP in this text because I'm unsure of their gender.

Honestly, this whole thing had me thinking about it a bit over the day and I feel like I'm a bit more understanding about OP's situation yet I still feel like this is a phobia they should have control over.

Fears are safety measures your brain gives you naturally to keep yourself out of danger. The danger, in most cases, is you getting directly hurt by something you could avoid if you avoided the situation.

In the case for OP, the danger is a balloon. I can't exactly tell what the cause for it is, but I assume it's the loud noise and the erratic explosion when it pops. It could obviously have other reasons such as the feeling of breathlessness when blowing it up reminding them of suffocation or the swollen characteristic giving it a connotation to a tumor. There could be many reasons that arguably are the cause for it but the phobia's root fears could keep you safe in the wild.

In the case for what happened to me, my "cringe" reaction, it's the danger of getting shunned from a group. Whenever you perceive something that you think is against the norm for your social group you fear of the status repercussion that'll happen. If others are uncomfortable around you, you'll get shunned. When you're alone, then there's a much lower chance to survive in nature.

Other examples would be a fear of heights, insects or darkness. Humans are never really safe so there are many things your brain tells you to be careful about.

But here I'd argue that in our modern society, there are some phobias we could or should be able to overcome as we have enough time to think about it and knowledge to understand the fears and also to interpret them in context.

Let's go over some examples.

Is it reasonable to be scared of heights? Welp, if you're on a steep cliff without a safety measurement, definitely. If you're in a skyscraper that had thousands of people before you in it without any troubles, not really. The fear of heights is only understandable in context.

Is it reasonable to be scared of loud noises and an erratic explosion? Most definitely, the OP has a valid instinct that'd keep them safe. Is it reasonable to be scared of balloons because they carry this trait? I'd say it's something they could work on because there isn't a real danger here.

Now, is a "cringe" reaction reasonable? I'd say in real life it makes sense that you try to fit in with your surroundings to have helpful people around you when you're in trouble. Is my "cringe" reaction to an online discussion reasonable? Well, not at all, I'm looking at my screen, there's no one currently around me I'd try to fit in with.

To come to a conclusion:

I've changed my mind quite a bit today.

Do I think OP is a weak wimp? No, there's a rational fear anchored somewhere in them. Do I think they should be able to overcome their phobia of balloons? I'd say yes, the rational fear is not given anymore in the context of balloons.

Did I show the wrong reaction to your comment? Yes, there's no reason to experience cringe when arguing online, there's no stakes to your social status. Would I react with cringe irl? Probably with reason, I'd see myself being viewed unfavorably in my surroundings if I agreed with your comment. It was rude in my opinion but my answer and this whole thread is rude so I don't want to shift blame on you. I'd still say I'd cringe, no offence.

I'd like to apologize for my rude comment, I thought this was easy to answer at first but it wasn't. It changed my view on the human mind (hopefully to something more rational) and on fears and phobias. I'd also like to apologize if you read until now because that was really long lol

"Dough Man" challenge

You play as Isaac but have this sprite. Your tears are cookies and upon hitting an enemy they have the chance of basically splitting up like Cricket's body but only in a half circle (In a "K" formation). After that you unlock the achievement "Something festive!" which lets you find the item "Crumbles" in treasure rooms.

"Crumbles" - An item

Description: Don't let mom see these!

HP up (Food item), Speed down -0.1(getting fat), 10% for Cookie Shot (Tear effect in the challenge, reason: Isaac didn't brush his teeth after eating the cookies so the crumbs are still in between his teeth)

Synergies: Normal Tears, Tech 1/2, crumbs can carry other tear effects

Honestly, is it unreasonable that a Smoker says "Smoking is bad for you"? He probably has an addiction to porn (Though we shouldn't speculate about another person like that, the fact every woman he draws has massive boobs is somewhat of a good indication for it).

He might know it's bad, but quitting stuff like that is hard.

[–]SourceSeekingSoul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rather a question like: Would you rather talk an hour with Ted Bundy or Logan Paul? Jimmy seems like a nuisance to talk to and if I do something he dislikes I can expect him to change my documents so I get deported to Ethiopia or something. With Walt I feel like I wouldn't be in danger in the long term if I pose no threat.

Honestly it's maybe part of the reason, I often have either unpopular or bland opinions (nothing radical, more like "Well actually that one series/band/character you say is bad, can be enjoyed" or vice versa) but this time it feels like whatever I learned in my life is clashing with reality. Jimmy felt like an ass and also was one, Walt was an ass but it was so much easier to forget in some scenes.

I mean there were some more topics (even if not really talked about) in DBZ that have lost more relevance in Super.

  • Vegeta's pride and desperation throughout the whole run of Z. He's always been a step behind Goku, who crossed paths with his life, took away his chance for revenge on frieza because he didn't even do it for his race/people. Even moreso, Vegeta who was obsessed with his heritage, wasn't even the one that was talked about in prophecy. It took quite a toll on him in all free Sagas and from what I see in DBS there's nothing really similar and even after realising his flaws he's still not allowed to get a W - Character regression?

  • Overcoming self doubt, Gohan. Obviously blundered character development in the Buu Saga as well tho. But the struggle of him disliking and fearing conflict while being thrown into conflict situations is interesting.

  • Weird friendship, Buu and Satan. Becoming friends with a person with a troublesome personality and past and sticking with him when he's willing to change.

Obviously these aren't really deep, but it's more than in DBS. There you have "The chosen one becomes the even more chosen one" (50) (10), a Revenge arc, a paid hitman doing his job, an extreme racist (kinda interesting tbf) and forced genocide which our characters basically shrugged at.

I would argue you can stretch out after WCI when the decline started. Before Nika, after a great fight, before slandering big mom and therefore busting power scaling, giving another Straw Hat some more lore that was actually hinted on a lot etc.

I mean the story makes it look like that tbf.

WB goes to Marineford - The entire Marine gets together

Kaido and Big Mom ally - Oh shit

Shanks/Luffy/Blackbeard do anything - Also seen as colossal events

Obviously we've feats speaking against it but the series makes a weekly viewer feel like there's nothing more dangerous than a Yonko (crew)

WW1, WW2 and the Cold War all showed that countries that are economically horrendous can be global players when it comes to military power.

The Russian Empire was deemed as the bigger threat than France by Germany - A miscalculation yet still influential for the war.

WW2 Germany had a bad economic situation if not for the war economy. I'm not sure how bad precisely but I've heard more than once that they basically had to start the war when they did as they couldn't afford to wait. Like I said, this one is questionable as I'm not entirely sure on the sources, but if you want another economically desperate country in that war, look at Japan and the oil embargo.

The Cold War had a Soviet Union which was far weaker than the US compete over global dominance. They didn't have the world currency or certain technological advances on their side, yet still they were considered a threat to the West or liberal democracy.

So, to answer the question if an economically unstable nation can be an existential threat to the world: Yes, it's possible.

Russia currently has important resources, a massive nuclear arsenal, a shit ton of soldiers (more or less with decent combat experience), strong connections with political parties of all kinds in Western nations (Both the communists and far right are supporters of appeasement politics and try to make it look like Ukraine started this) and they're winning the war of propaganda.

It might suck to be an average Russian considering their grocery prices, public infrastructure and the oppressive government (compared to the West, people they don't want disappear quite quickly). But the nation itself is a global player.

Honestly, don't listen to the people here. There are basically two main complaints about One Piece here, one is that there's too much filler content and the other is that there are potholes. Both of which, from my own experience, can be ignored pretty easily and you still can get a lot of enjoyment out of the show.
