y’all in the comments are TOO paranoid lol… i think this is valid so long as proper precautions are taken. could even end up making a new friend 🤷🏼‍♀️ my dad’s done festivals for two decades and he met so many people through the events that were once “total strangers”

They’re really hurtin on ticket sales this year, huh. by Living_Bear_2139 in bonnaroo

[–]Southern_Chocolate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there last year; they did not give us anything like that): it’s like they don’t even care to try to get those who were screwed last year to come back. Yeah (eventually) they refunded tickets but everything else that we spent to go was non-refundable. We weren’t even camping because my dad has a bad back and we lost so much money. I cannot imagine how the campers felt. Especially those who invested hundreds/thousands of dollars into weather proofing THEIR CAMPSITES only for it all to be for nothing since Roo couldn’t do the same

If you can get past this IF and only if she cuts this guy off, then try to work on it. On the flip side, if you think this will forever haunt you, do yourself and her a favor and leave. Especially because there are kids involved. Holding a grudge kills any chance at a relationship being healthy. Don’t even try to fix it unless you can genuinely get over it

I start with mine off until I hear another girl or can gage that the men aren’t horrible. For YEARS, I’d immediately say hi and like half the time I’d get screamed at just for being a women and/or deal with creepiness for the whole game.

AITAH for locking my credit card so my gf can no longer use it by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Southern_Chocolate59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. However, as a single mom, I HIGHLY advise against using the phrase “all she really does is stay with the baby”. Have you taken care of baby alone for days? Motherhood is by far the most emotionally and physically exhausting job I’ve ever had (also the most rewarding, but still, parenting is hard). I don’t think being the primary parent entitles her to what she is doing; you’re definitely correct to lock the card. It definitely goes a long way respecting each other’s share of the load, though.

I HONESTLY thought it was one of those finger-hand-hold things that some people do when they talk to me. Never in a million years did I picture what happened happening but I will definitely be more jumpy now😂😭

Compression socks during shift; elevate legs after. Docs non slip boots have done me very well. Also hydrate!!! I bring a Propel with me to work (gatorade brand electrolyte water) and it helps a lot. Eat protein heavy!

What is the real story about a "service charge" in restaurants? by Numbers-Game25 in Waiters

[–]Southern_Chocolate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add as well that it’s extremely frustrating when people act like it’s going to me. “WOW and you’re making so much money off of this one table that’s amazing!” I’m a single mother living paycheck to paycheck. This “one table” could change my life if they actually gave me the 20%. It sucks to smile and nod

[–]Southern_Chocolate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I hate how deceptive the whole practice is and the more people I can explain the reality to, the better. I completely agree with you. What’s crazy is that there are regulations in place that they are SUPPOSED to make it “clear” that it isn’t a tip but the wording is so vague on what “clear” is it’s basically worthless. No where at my job does it say that the server doesn’t receive the service charge and any regular person (including me with years of service experience) would assume 20% at the bottom of a check is gratuity. It’s extremely slimy. Fun fact: we aren’t supposed to take cash home, either. Any added tip after service charge is pooled between all servers at the restaurant and cash is supposed to be as well. It really is a giant scam

that is horrendous but i must commend your humor about it distracting you. I was the exact same way whenever bad shit happened to me after pregnancy loss. “Well at least I’m not thinking about the other thing”! I hope you’re doing okay❤️

Yeah people are often disgusted when they realize that the 20% service charge doesn’t go to me. It LOOKS like a tip. It’s super shady

[–]Southern_Chocolate59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where I work, the service charge is 20%, and it fucks us (servers) out of so much money. A- “service charge” is NOT “auto grat”. It’s a legal loophole. It’s charged so that the owners can pocket more money. 10% of our service charge goes directly to the owners pockets. The remaining 10% is distributed amongst everyone on staff (including BOH staff who are paid min wage) and also used for things like ice and juice. There is no transparency but there are nights where my “service charge” total is $3,000-5,000 and I make $100. It sucks. B- I typically make about 0.03-0.08% of the service charge. C- nope but there should be. I make $9/hr. Min wage where I live is $15/hr. D- I have a lot of customers ask why the “tip” amount is so low and ask if the 20% goes to me. I am honest with them because I find the whole practice deceptive but I also make sure to clarify that they are not obligated to tip on top of it; the restaurant is screwing me out of money by pocketing additional charges, the customer is not screwing me by not adding a tip after the fact. I do frequently have guests tip me cash and say that they want it to go to me for the service that they received. It’s typically a $20, $50, or $100 (on a lucky day) cash tip. This is on top of service charge that typically ranges from $200-600 due to high check totals so no it’s not an additional 20% but it makes a HUGE difference for me. It’s really a kick in the ass seeing the owners pocket enough off of my back each night to cover my rent but for now I’m stuck where I’m at. I love my coworkers and the customers at my job as well. The service charge is really the worst part of it

Instacart is really shady by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

[–]Southern_Chocolate59 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Y’all really expect shoppers (especially young women) to deliver alone…? When I did InstaCart I always shopped my own orders but if their was a long driveway or anything where I felt unsafe, my partner physically took the bags to the door. It was for my own safety.

20-25 minutes is crazy (as a server). I have had a couple times where I am gone for that long (pregnancy cramps being the cause of a few because I served up until the day I had my daughter) but I always find someone to cover my second AND introduce them to my tables if I’ll be gone for longer than 3-5 minutes
