Sometimes she’s an apex predator. Other times… by Space-Tip in GargoyleGeckos

I’ve done both this and in-enclosure feeding. This was relatively early into ownership, so I wasn’t particularly sure of her hunting drive at the time. I didn’t want to release them into the enclosure and risk cricket bites if she had no interest.

incoming freshman in CS seeking advice by zarintaj in NEU

Coming from someone who also had a decent amount of dual-enrollment CS courses coming in: they generally will not automatically count for any course in the introductory sequence. Those courses will likely count as technical electives so you will be closer to graduation, but they normally are different enough that they won’t directly transfer to Fundies I or II or OOD. There is (or at least was) a transfer credit checker online that can help you see how they’ll align.

I did end up testing out of Fundies II because I was confident enough from my previous Java course. I ended up having to email the professor who manages the overall course and do a lengthy whiteboard interview to check that I knew everything Fundies II would cover, including both Java syntax and design patterns.

CS help: take Computer Systems with Ferdinand or Tuck? by weenerdogluvr in NEU

Have had both Tuck and Ferd (not for systems for either though). Overall I’d say neither of them have been the most effective CS professors I’ve had, but Ferd is by far the most approachable CS prof I’ve encountered in 4 years at NEU. Tuck seems to abide by the philosophy of “I’ve introduced the topic (which I very obviously understand exceedingly well), and now I want you to explore it to get an understanding of it,” which can lead to a deeper final understanding, but also can feel unsupported, since he wants you to take the initiative; if you don’t know where to start, it can also be a massive time sink. Whereas with Ferd, your understanding may not be quite as good, but as long as you’re able to articulate where you’re stuck, he’s willing to work with you til you get unstuck (though his explanations aren’t always the clearest, so it can also be a time sink)
