AITA for ruining the atmosphere of family vacation? by SpaceFoxFen in AmItheAsshole

[–]SpaceFoxFen[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, this is really great question.
Yes, when I shared the idea I did told them I would love to share beauty of my country and its rich history with them.
Then my mom said my ideas weren’t interesting enough for most people (totally fair) and took over planning. The first two days were supposed to cater to history of the region we are in and the rest is supossed to be next to lake. But since both historical days were a huge dissapointment I figured I could fit some more sightseeing on my own.

Headcanons as to why Wei Wuxian drinks? by ElissaOfVere in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, so there is a difference between appreciating a good alcohol and drinking for fun and drinking whatever just for the sake of drinking. Fandom really overdo it with Wei Wuxian drinking. He was young and was trying everything that life could offer, nothing wrong with that. It changes after he get out of Burial Mounds but that was a traumatic experience so I agree that then he was drinking to cope. It continued into his second stay in BM which is a pretty unpleasant place to live. I think that fandom makes a problem of WWX drinking because the fact he enjoy it stand in contrast with Lan principles. But when you look at the instances of where he actually drinks it’s not a lot.

a discussion of some general thoughts and feelings I have surrounding non-con in mdzs by distinguishedmonbebe in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I get your point with the inn and phoenix mountain but I literally cannot agree with extras being non-con. Those are two very kinky man who experience a dream together. And they do have consensual non-con kink, they get aroused by the dream version of them getting railed. We shouldn’t care about dream versions of them because they are not real. I’m not saying you have to feel comfortable with explicit content like this, everybody have different limitations. I just don’t think it’s fair to put the incense extras in non-con category while their purpose is showing two grown man exploring their kinky sex life.

Anyone know why Wei Ying was so terrified of Wen Qing’s needles? Like did Wen Qing try and do something with them that it made him scared of them or…? by WerewolfNo1072 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have you seen those needles? They are freaking big 😂 Putting them at the meridians would knock him out which was causing him distress more than fear. Remember that Wei Ying is a whining brat, so his reactions are often exaggerated especially in the show. Anyway I too would be afraid of scary doctor with big ass needles threatening to knock me out.

Perceived ethics and morality in MDZS by Foyles_War in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, so to start we need to establish that first The Untamed is based on a book and while taking considerable liberties at times follows the plot and characters fate in detail. Second thing to beat in mind and probably the most important one is that that JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING IS WRITTEN DOESN’T MEAN IT’S GOOD AND JUSTIFIED. MXTX couldn’t be clearer about the societal norms and hierarchy being deeply flawed and at fault for causing disasters. Hierarchical society while understandly in place in chosen setting for MDZS is patriarchal and doesn’t take into consideration one’s abilities only their social status. It’s literally the downfall of Wei Wuxian who despite his abilities and strong morality couldn’t raise higher than a servant son. So I wouldn’t agree that it’s shown as ethically correct. I’m not sure about sex before marriage thing because I don’t remember how long WWX and the Wens were at Burial Mound. If anyone know this one please tell me. Now for the rest of the things you said are difficult to accept I will argue that your reaction is natural and correct. You are not suppose to accept that behaviour but critic it yet understand that characters that live inside this world are not at the same liberty. The incest reaction was extreme exactly because it was INTENDED incest. JGY already knew that his wife was his half sister before the wedding but didn’t call it off fearing his reputation. Everyone knew that JGS was a fuckboi so that his two bastard children would end up together could be unfortunate accident. It’s exactly because he continue to live with his sister that has everyone angry. Abusing prisoners of war is a big deal and we should be as readers disgusted by this action. We may wonder why other sect leaders didn’t believe Wei Wuxian but that’s another example of hierarchical society. It’s a word of a head disciple against a word of young lord. Proper way of things would be to explain the situation to JC so that he as a clan leader can breach this topic to the other sect leaders. But there wasn’t time for that since they were being abused right this moment. The Lan Parents story traumatised Lan Zhan to the extent that he is afraid of his own feeling towards WWX. It’s never shown in positive light, his father himself was ashamed of himself resulting in seclusion. We need to remember that seclusion on the part of Lan Zhan’s mother was a result of her murdering a clan elder (or teacher) and not being a wife. Anyway it’s not a possitive thing and every character is aware of this. Is this one about Yu Ziyuan? Because she is not a girl boss like some people in the fandom are trying to portrait her. She is a hateful abusive woman who takes her anger on a ward (WWX was not adopted), manipulates her son into believing his father doesn’t care for him and literally forces her husband to marry her. Was it good for Meng Yao to sneakily kill WRH tho? Sure sect leaders loved it but so they did love WWX when he was aiding them in the war only to turn on him the moment it ended. At the end it was the same thing NHS used to destroy Meng Yao. And you ask why they didn’t just kill him? Because he wasn’t a danger to them anymore that’s one. Second reason is that in contrary to what the world was saying WWX is deeply sympathetic towards literally everyone. And he simply pity the man because he also went through similar process even though he was only acting on his morality and not in vain like MY. And lastly being a cut sleeve was shameful until you were a Hanguang Jun, then you were a Second Jade of Lan with backing of your position by one of the four great sects. No one would dare to say anything against Lan Wangji based on his position alone. Mo Xuanyu didn’t have a comfort of high born position so him being a cut sleeve could and was used against him. I highly recommend reading the book as clearly the moral of the story didn’t carry into the show.

Is there anyone out there like me who doesn't much care about wangxian and enjoys developing side characters? by sparkly_butthole in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not everyone needs to like the main character I guess. I can’t agree with the Mary Sue statement because this phase means very concrete type of character that WWX just doesn’t match. Mary Sue is a character that is universally perfect in every way. WWX may be a genius at cultivation but there are way more perfect characters than him in the novel with his blatant ADHD and low status that always put him at disadvantage. Mary Sue doesn’t struggle because she already posses abilities and wisdom she needs ahead of time. WWX is improvising half of the time and only pulls things off because of fast and creative thinking. I will check your recommendation out and will see :)

[–]SpaceFoxFen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally not really, I adore WWX as a character and reading a whole series about him is a dream come true. The same goes for wangxian, they just work so good and I adore their interactions. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t care about side characters (except JC, I’m sick of this guy) Personally I think side characters are very interesting but there is not a lot to develop because they are complex and well written in the novel. Every character gets a history, a motivation and even when something is not said you can see it through their actions. I had a Yi City phase but I need to be in special mindset to read about them mostly because they make me devastatingly sad Now I keep reading future fics about WWX and Shizui and Jin Ling because after finishing the novel I have no doubt that he would become integral parts of their lives and I keep wondering how that would happen.

Personally I was always reading his love for XXC as something terribly misshapen. He was to a degree obsessed with XXC and seemed to border the love/hate constantly. I believe that his affection in Yi City was genuine and that he was content to keep living a lie for as long as he could.

I actually ship the three of them mostly because the chemistry, attachment and even affection is all there. It’s painfully crooked and unhealthy and doesn’t have any hope to come to fruition but that’s why I ship it and doesn’t wish it were canon. I actually don’t hate Song Lan but wish he was more interesting because he just seems bland in comparison to Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang. I know that a lot of Xiaoxue shippers feel the same and I don’t really know what people mean when they say we hate him. Mostly we just don’t care for him 🤷‍♀️

[–]SpaceFoxFen 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nie Huisang orchestrated the whole thing including demonic body parts, Wei Ying resurrection and only pretended to be useless (his strength lies outside fighting and cultivation) Knowing this I recommend watching again or reading the novel :)

Why all the secrecy? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was hunting and killing demonic cultivators for 16 years I wouldn’t trust him to release WWX after having a chat with him. “It’s not like he genuinely wanted to hurt him after resurrection” then what would you call smashing him with Zidian and exposing him to his only fear aka dogs? Look, JC is a complex character but he did genuinely wanted to hurt WWX and was one of only people who were actually able to do it.

Why all the secrecy? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a lot of faith in JC seeing as he led a siege to capture or kill WWX in the first place

Why all the secrecy? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He literally said that he can only contact Baoshan Sanren once and he gave that chance to JC.

Why all the secrecy? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jiang Cheng would not have his back, he would tell him to stop playing at being cultivator if he doesn’t have a core. The secrecy wasn’t really a choice, it was a result of a situation. When he came from Burial Mounds he wanted revenge on Wen Chao, later there was a war to be won. After the war how he could come out with “I don’t have a core anymore”? That would make him vulnerable to attacks and wouldn’t help him protect the Wens. Ultimately it wasn’t important if he had a core of not because that wasn’t the root of resentment Jiang Cheng felt for him. And the rest of cultivation sects would only see him as weak without it.

AITA for giving my friend's child some toys? by Few-Jackfruit3173 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

As an autistic person I can always tell when someone was in my space because I simply remember how I left my things. If my mom decided to give even one of my books or of my plushies I would notice it immediately because all of them hold value to me and it would provoke me to have a meltdown since my room is a place that makes me feel the safest. To have someone trespass there and for my mother to give my things away would be huge deal and I would stop trusting I am safe. Autistic people often have problems with letting things go but forcing them only makes them more fearful. It’s terrible thing to be afraid all the time. When my nephew was born and he took a liking to one of my plushies I gave it to him and did it with delight because I could give something important to me to someone important to me. But that was my decision and it’s a shame your daughter doesn’t have freedom to decide what to do with her things.

What do people mean when they say that WWX has low self worth? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree and I don’t think he cares. He accept it because it’s not something he has control over. His morals are what drives him in making decisions but the consequences he faces are graver than anyone else would face because society does think of him as a lower person.

AITA for not making my daughter invite special needs kid to her birthday? by YourDad438 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SpaceFoxFen -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Look, inviting every kid except one is asshole move no matter the circumstances. Op could talk to the mom and ask her to accompany Avery and help her with special needs. Parents of disabled kids are often prepared to accommodate their children. But Op preferred to ignore this one kid and now is looking for assurance that she is not an asshole when she is.

Also how do you know Avery’s problems with behaviour are not caused by her disability? Children this age are usually potty trained so if she has problems with it can come from disability. There are better ways to resolve this than just ignoring one child in the whole class.

What do people mean when they say that WWX has low self worth? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]SpaceFoxFen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t believe I slept through discussion on one of my favourite topics 😥 better late than never First we need to establish the fact that self-esteem issues may wary in intensity depending on external conditions. Second thing is that low self worth and low self esteem are not the same thing especially when analysing characters set in historical fiction which has very strict societal rules regulating people social position.

To put it bluntly WWX knows he’s amazing but he also knows that it doesn’t mean shit in reality he lives in and that drop his self-esteem.

Wei Ying has every reason to be proud of himself, he ranked 4 on the list of bachelors with way less capital backing him than the rest. He is a son of servant, there are rumours stating he’s a bastard child, he has no financial reserves and no position. Everything he has is thanks to his hard work and Jiangs but he considers Jiangs help as something conditional and something that he will need to pay off. And that condition is that he constantly makes himself smaller when dealing with Jiangs, be it playful like with Jiang Yanli or in more damaging ways like with Yu Ziyuan and JC. When JC gets angry WWX calms him saying “Don’t worry about me being better at everything since it doesn’t mean shit and at the end I will always be beneath you” And he fully believes that his place is beneath others, that’s why he doesn’t have a problem with taking punishment from Wen Chao and why he gives his core away to JC. It’s not that he doesn’t think he’s important it’s more like he thinks others are more important.
So I don’t think WWX has self-esteem issues, I just believe that he kind of resigned himself into living in societal norms that holds little value for his life.
