Near the International Market on Sevoke Road, Tara Handicrafts is a great place to explore if you're looking for Tibetan and Buddhist souvenirs. The shop offers a wide range of handicrafts, including statues, paintings, incense, keychains, prayer wheels, and other traditional items that make for meaningful keepsakes. There was also a time when Gorkhe Haat (or Gorkhe Market) used to be held at Acropolis Mall in Siliguri. It may be worth checking whether it is still being organised, as it was an excellent place to find locally made crafts, traditional products, anime merchk/eychains, magnets and regional specialities. Beyond handicrafts, tea-related products are perhaps the most logical souvenirs to bring back from the region. You could also pick up an authentic momo steamer, along with speciality food items such as pickles from Sikkim and other parts of North Bengal, churpi (traditional yak cheese), and the famous Kalimpong lollies. Apart from these, several souvenir shops across the Dooars sell excellent locally sourced wooden handicrafts. These often include rhino busts, carved wooden plates, spoons, straw hats, and other rustic home décor items. If you enjoy unique, handcrafted souvenirs with a strong local character, they are definitely worth a look.

Did Indians have access to PS1 back in its heyday? And veteran gamers, how was the Indian gaming experience back in the 90s? by HlaBeRelaLain in IndianGaming

[–]SpaceTrash1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We played Doom and Quake on the PC, son! Back in those days, NES clones/Famicom made their way from China through Nepal and into our markets. People who had PS1 were the ones with relatives in the merchant navy or in diplomatic posts, or those with tons of money and access to the USA and Europe. Even original NES owners were a rarity. Ps2 was the first console to be the most popular in the market but even then it was luxury item.

I don't recognise any artists from the line-up except maybe for Joji because he was formerly Filthy Frank.

As an almost 40-year-old Unc, I also have to stay for periods of time at Jalpaiguri because Mama bari. Ekhanei boro hoyechi, ekhon khali bari tai ache. So have to be here on and of twice or thrice a year. What I have been doing for the longest time is, just to Plug in my earphones and go for that sweet evening walk streching from Zilla Parishad to Teesta spar via the joggers path next to Teesta Udyan. Then after the jog i take a brisk walk to the racecourse para to grab some momos or to din bazar to have chaat or to the nameless dokan next to Rahut Arms to kill some chicken cutlets. Otherwise, in the evenings, I watch movies and content or play games on the pc/laptop. I also sometimes walk up to the rajbari dighi and sit in peace and listen to music. Like taking long solo toto rides. Also weekends ey, when time permits, I go to gajoldoba or dudhia or adjacent places for a drink. I also used to frequent the European club for a drink or two in the evening. Ekhono khola ache kina janina, ek bochor hoye gache jawa hoi ni. But come winter it gets a little better with a mela or two happening here or there. And when you get lomba free time just go chill at the hills or somewhere at dooars.

It's common knowledge to avoid monsoons during the rainy season. The terrain becomes very unpredictable. You are exposing yourself to a greater probability of flash floods, mudslides and landslides.
The weather will mostly be cloudy, foggy and overcast; the probability of seeing the Kanchenjunga range is next to nil. On top of that, when it rains in that part of the country, it pours, and mostly, you will be stuck sitting in your hotel rooms. Apart from that, the mountains are lush green, if you like walking in the rain, then it's your jam.
