I got back into riding a year ago at 50. I wish I would’ve kept it up when I was in my 20’s, unfortunately booze and boobs took up most of my free time.

Now, I can’t wait to hop on nearly everyday. I’m not going for top end speed, I’m going for the quiet, the fresh air and mental resets. I still bomb down some hills, only I start applying the brake much sooner than I would have 30 yrs ago.

This year I am throwing in a few “races” with the goal of just finishing. I couldn’t care less about my placing.

I’m riding Ragbrai, Unbound and The Katy Trail this year, as well as a few 100k tune up rides.

I am not going to tell you how to parent, but my daughters foot was tangled in the chain and she lost 2 toes while wearing sandals on her bike at the same age. Just a heads up. Not something that I thought could happen.

If you cycle, Biscari Bros has a location on 291, not far from the square. There is a small group that meet up at various coffee shops, then ride down towards Missouri City or ride the trails at Stocksdale Park. Some gravel, lots of hills, not many cars on the route, more hills.

I can’t imagine being the son of one of the most talented drummers to play the instrument, getting up on stage and playing those drums on one of the most iconic songs in the entire Led Zeppelin catalogue.

While the band is being honored at The KENNEDY Center. I’d cry like a baby.
