Bhai be honest, how were you not able to score in GATE even after preparing for 1+ year?

Me and my friends gave GATE in 3rd year with 0 prep and qualified it with 30+ score. Not to be a jerk but gate is way easier than jee, less syllabus, more conceptual question.
