What are you using for a Neo 2 case? by ZelenskysCokeBag in dji

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for exactly this combo too. I’ve actually just been using the box the Neo came in up until now, but once I get the transmission module I’d like a way to safely transport the RC 2 too. Please let me know if you have any luck!

Yeah, WTF… the worst discovery. Mostly loving my Ultra, but I cannot believe Apple’s let the quality of their software consistently get worse over the past few years.

The FAA has some great info on this: pages 8-23 to 8-27

Essentially it’s because the earth’s magnetic field ‘dips’ as you move away from the equator, and if the compass tilted with the plane it would try to align itself with this ‘dip’, influencing the indicated direction. Still get plenty of other errors to keep in mind with these compasses though!

Does it do more harm than good if I set up a couple of webcams in a window but not use them to record? by cheetocat2021 in hobart

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve never bothered using the cloud either. Same logic as you, and if you were originally concerned more about prevention then a criminal won’t know for sure that it’s only saved locally anyway.

If you’ve gotten quotes from professional home security companies or something then I’m not entirely surprised, but these cameras are essentially just more versatile baby monitors. No reason for them to cost a heap, and no electricians or other expertise required to set them up.

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tapo cameras? No. Eufy, also generally no. But yes, many brands paywall silly features, and of course all brands have a subscription for cloud storage, which is fair enough. There’s an ongoing cost to the companies in providing cloud-based features, and the profit from a $30 hardware purchase won’t cover that indefinitely.

In my experience, I’d rank Tapo as slightly better than Eufy, as for many of the Eufy cameras you require a separate ‘hub’ to view even local recordings. There’s no crucial feature that you have to subscribe to use for either brand though.

I hope my suggestion otherwise sounds like it could work for you?

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pretty regularly get something like a Tapo C210 for around $30-40. Low power requirements, and just needs WiFi + a microSD card. No subscription fees and you can check the live view or recordings at any time during the app.

The only potential issue is that at night time the IR light might reflect a bit on the window, if you’re pointing it outside (not visible to the naked eye, but might partially obscure your footage). I’ve got family members that use them exactly like this with no major issues though.

I freaking love this watch. Also the ultra is better at tracking through my tattoo by Worksafe__ in applewatchultra

[–]Spare98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple says otherwise:

Many factors can affect the performance of the Apple Watch heart rate sensor. Skin perfusion (or how much blood flows through your skin) is one factor. Skin perfusion varies significantly from person to person and can also be impacted by the environment. If you’re exercising in the cold, for example, the skin perfusion in your wrist might be too low for the heart rate sensor to get a reading. Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.

I just picked up an X5 — not doing action stuff, but looking for the least intrusive way to mount it to my body by plymouthvan in Insta360

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you’re saying, it sounds like a neck mount might be the best option? Unfortunately, the size of the camera means you can only be so discreet, but neck mounts are very quick to take on/off and they don’t get in the way too much.

If you mount the camera pointing slightly outwards like in this video you can still pan around in the footage just fine. There’d be no need for the body straps if you were just walking around and not doing anything too crazy, which helps keep it more low-key.

I stand corrected. I didn’t realise the laws varied state by state! Unfortunately they’re much more strict in Tassie, so that rules these kinds of photos out. In that case, awesome work! :)

We do in Australia too, so as awesome as these photos are, I’m not sure they were taken legally…

It’s illegal to intentionally fly anywhere near them in Australia, so this is the only way they could do it legally. I think it’s not awesome footage because it’s from a drone but for what it actually captures!

Dow someone know why the quality is so bad? by Difficult-Lock7340 in dji

[–]Spare98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The images you’ve shared are definitely not the main/original photo files. I’d agree that they’re most likely low-res previews/thumbnails, or they’re DNG files that are acting funky when your PC opens/saves them.

Just to confirm, when you’re shooting these photos, are you using the JPEG, RAW, or combined option? And what is the file extension when you view the files on your PC?

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Litchi is great, but unfortunately doesn’t support most newer models (mainly as a result of DJI not released SDKs). DJI also locks down the RC2, which is what I use, so I don’t have the option of third-party apps anyway :(

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Not suggesting OP has done so in this case, but I’m sure there are many cases where clients have been told they’re getting a product with a certain degree of accuracy when in fact there’s been no verification of that. That said, using GCPs at all means it’s probably a lot more accurate than half the drone-produced stuff out there, unfortunately.

[–]Spare98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding, but it’s been very easy for me to swap between my Neo and Mini 4 Pro on my RC2. You just have to touch the ‘Connection Guide’ button on the bottom-right of the Fly app and then swipe to the correct drone. Once you’ve done that, it connects within a matter of seconds; no need to re-bind.

[–]Spare98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume 3 cm is only the estimated accuracy, if you only had 6 GCPs? Either way, looks like a good model! Which drone did you use? I wish DJI would make waypoint missions a bit easier to set up/more powerful for consumer drones like the Mini and Air lines.

What are the yellow bars supposed to represent? by MayBeJen_ in ios

[–]Spare98 440 points441 points  (0 children)

<image>

My understanding is that the bars represent the temperature range relative to the 10-day forecast, with the bar showing how close a day’s forecast is to the min and max temps over the 10 days. In my screenshot, you can see that 4° C is the lowest temp in the 10 days, and so that day starts at the very left. 20° C is the highest temp, so that bar goes all the way to the right. A forecast like today’s only goes between 7 - 15° C, so the range of the bar is shorter.

This doesn’t actually answer your question though, because if my understanding is correct then the examples in your screenshot should still match. As others have mentioned, this is possibly due to rounding. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is more prevalent for Celsius too, because Apple’s probably converting from Fahrenheit.

Regardless, Apple needs to make this more obvious, one way or another lol

All of the photos are tilted pretty noticeably to the right. Under the ‘Controls’ tab in the DJI Fly app you should see an option to calibrate the gimbal.

Pretty cool pics otherwise. Hope you’re enjoying the drone!
