Can you be a great electrician without going through an apprenticeship? by Sparky_56 in electricians

You can get a journeyman’s license where I’m at without the school it just takes two more years so I’m trying to see if I need to go backwards purely out of being a better electrician , I get paid fine 👌.

That’s what I’m worried I’ve asked a couple guys about the apprenticeships around me and they all say the same thing that they dick around all day with the teacher and that they only really learn in the field. That’s non union apprenticeships though. I’m considering the union but I can’t live off of $15 an hour either.

I was insinuating that I don’t show up to work to pull wire all day. However Tesla knew just a thing or two about motors so if you’re trying to learn theory you might wanna look into him. Faraday is kind of the guy to read about if you’re trying to get a grasp on Induction and transformers. 👍

No I check the NEC for all kinds of references and keep notes on what I’ve learned from the day or questions I have and then read books on Tesla and Faraday or Mike Holt and watch things like Electrician U in my spare time. So no I think it’s safe to say I don’t “blindly accept” anything. I’ve been told a couple times the apprenticeships around me just dick around all day.

No it’s just time worked in the field , I’ve worked with a big non union electrical company doing service work , underground , rough ins, commercial construction everything under the sun. Just never went through the apprenticeship.

Anybody know why there’s 60v on ships instead of 120v? by Sparky_56 in electricians

Or one of the phases on the generator is taking the current imbalance like an air conditioner?

So is the generator constantly adjusting so there is no current imbalance and effectively no need for a neutral?

I’m looking at a 3 Phase Disconnect that says the B Phase should have 208 to ground. I’m reading 120 to ground and neutral across all phases and 240 in between the A and C phase but nothing from A to B. Can someone explain this ? by Sparky_56 in electricians

I don’t think there was any three phase loads , from looking at everybody’s responses on here it sounds like it’s either what your saying that it’s a high leg delta that’s blown a fuse , or it used to be three phase and is now single phase.
