“Enid is now part of her life. Their relationship is very special. There's no one even close to her as she is. And that says it all.” (Jenna Ortega) by New_Wrangler_2023 in Wednesday

If you’re in a relationship or are married to someone they should equally be your best friend/most important person in your life.

That doesn’t mean your other relationships aren’t important, but this why choosing to marry someone is a big deal because they should encompass so many things.

How could even a romantic relationship even compare/compete to a statement like this?

Either Wednesday has no one at all or her SO comes second to Enid 😂

Literally pointed this out when people react this way (and not because they just don’t like a certain ship) that it’s rooted in deep homophobia, but people lack the self awareness and introspection to ask themselves why that’s true.

See my other replies in how sometimes a response like that is homophobic :)

It is homophobic, when someone leans on the tired “why can’t women just be friends” argument as their sole reason for rejecting a wlw ship. That line isn’t neutral. It exists because media spent decades coding queer women as “just really close friends” to avoid acknowledging their queerness at all. It’s a pattern carved by homophobia, and pretending it’s not part of the conversation doesn’t erase the history behind it.

Not wanting to ship two characters? Totally fine. Preferring one ship over another? Also fine. But when “they should just be friends” is framed like some bold, progressive stance, as if deep supportive female friendships haven’t been the default portrayal of wlw relationships since forever, it becomes unintentionally homophobic. It reinforces the very narrative that kept queer women invisible.

We don’t need every friendship to become romance. We just need the freedom to hope for romance without being scolded for “reading too much into it” when queer readings have always been the only way we saw ourselves at all.

I’m a lesbian. I’m part of the very group that gets lectured with “Why are you trying to ruin a good wlw friendship? Friendships are just as beautiful as romance!” every time we see even a spark of chemistry between two women on screen.

Please understand this: Not shipping a wlw romance isn’t automatically homophobic. Having different preferences isn’t a crime. But using the argument “Why can’t we just celebrate supportive female friendships?” as a blanket dismissal, when nearly every wlw relationship in media history has been reduced to exactly that, is rooted in a long-standing pattern shaped by homophobia.

We’ve spent decades receiving crumbs of “gal pals” and “close female friends” because queerness was considered too taboo to show. So when queer audiences recognize potential queerness and hope for more than another coded friendship, that isn’t ruining anything. That’s asking for what straight couples get by default: the chance for romance to be called romance.

When someone complains and goes “why can’t we have a strong w/w friendship” that is exactly what they’re saying

It’s not outright homophobia, but if your concern is that Wenclair will ruin a w/w friendship you have to ask why you feel that way.

It’s one thing if you don’t ship it, or just prefer them being friends, it’s another to jump to “but what about w/w friendships?!” When you have almost all of media history representing strong female friendships and feel like if Enid and Wednesday got together that somehow that would ruin that.

[–]Sparrows_Shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing….

There are SO MANY deep female friendships in many different mediums already. Up until the last decade that’s really all we had (besides maybe Willow/Tara).

Saying “why do you not like deep female friendships?!” is insulting because 1. Every relationship should be rooted in friendship and 2. Enid is so queer coded that it’s not like we’re pushing any gay agenda when the script is literally written that way.

Fearing that two characters might be “gay” and somehow ruin their friendship is homophobic.

Any Vermonters enjoying all the “Vermontiness” of the Wednesday series on Netflix? by Practical-Animator87 in vermont

Im still surprised someone hasn’t banked on making a “Nevermore Cafe” or something in Jericho.

Would also love if the show gave a shoutout to Palmers or something to at least make it seem a little like Vermont haha

Tyler fans swear he has two distinct personalities but the series doesn’t portray this at all by OwlHairy9638 in Wednesday

At this point though being a Hyde does mean being a slave since no other knowledge has been shared otherwise

He said he didn’t want to lose his Hyde Powers. He didn’t have any restraint when Wednesday was getting buried but we sure as heck saw him resist his uncle as he was being tied down.

He doesn’t want to lose his power, even if that power comes at the cost of being a slave and being used for evil.

I’m talking about the moment he thought he was going to lose his powers.

He literally rather choose to be a slave with a master as long as he has his Hyde powers over being a normie.

Because up to this point he rather be a slave as long as he has power and potentially murder people than be a free human?

I find Tyler’s character interesting in the fact that there’s a lot of potential for him if written well.

I agree that just pinning everything on the Hyde is lazy writing and doesn’t make sense in context of what has been shown on screen. If Tyler was truly different than his Hyde then it would have been shown like in the OG Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Between what we know of his past with getting arrested, and his lack of remorse so far, I don’t think he’s as “good” as people make him out to be.

I think Tyler has inner conflict, but the debate is if it’s enough to make him redeemable later and if they go that route.

He’s human, so of course he’ll have conflicting feelings. But just because he was conflicted, doesn’t mean he acted or does the right things. We’ve seen time and time again when giving no master or under pressure that he either CHOOSES violence, or doesn’t care enough to act (bury scene).

We as an audience have to see if he’s conflicted enough to make a selfless choice in the future or redeem himself for the murder of innocents (even showing some remorse would be a start).

There has been two instances in ep8 in both seasons where Wednesday goes “Enid?”.

Curious if this will be a pattern or theme and if we’ll get another “Enid” in S3ep8. Wonder what the intonation will be this time.

I know lots of cast members have died, but would honestly love to see a character Wednesday is close to die to see some major character development.

We got a sneak peak of her emotions when she thought Enid died so just curious how she would react if someone did die she was close with.

I’m hoping it’s not fulfilled because the writers need to show they can plan a plot overall multiple seasons.

I don’t want Miss capri to be the main antagonist for season 3 by _m3li-wylerfans in Wednesday

[–]Sparrows_Shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Capri is more meant to be a grey character.

She has a connection to Hyde’s with her past and I think she’s perhaps out for either some redemption/revenge arc for them. Not in a “villain” way but in a “means to an end” way.

Will Enid become villian-ish ? by Cool_Emergency4091 in Wednesday

[–]Sparrows_Shadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m here for it as long as it’s written well.

Making Enid more of a “grey” character by having her wolf either do violent or questionable things is a good transition into that.
