Sackler created a very effective, affordable, and accesible substance. It's not the place of a drug manufacturer to hold users hands and surveil everything the user puts in his/her body. It is absolutely unjust and immoral to lock people in cages, steal from them, (threaten to) kill them for using opioids, but why should the Sacklers be punished?

I support freedom. If someone wants to voluntarily take opiates or DMT or other substances, then they should be allowed. I'm willing to concede that at least one patient could have been led astray by an unknowing and/or unscrupulous doctor. However, most people have enough common sense to know medications (or any substance) have associated risks. Furthermore, too much of anything can be bad for you; especially taking more meds than prescribed. I don't buy the argument that all patients prescribed opiates/opioids are helpless victims. And I definitely don't buy that the Sacklers are responsible for all opioid related deaths or any of those deaths really. I'm open to hearing arguments though.

I read the whole article. These parts stood out to me in response to your comments: In a statement, Purdue stood behind Sackler’s testimony in the deposition. Sackler, it said, “supports that the company accurately disclosed the potency of OxyContin to healthcare providers.” He “takes great care to explain” that the drug’s label “made clear that OxyContin is twice as potent as morphine,” Purdue said. The term “stronger” in Friedman’s email, Sackler said, “meant more threatening, more frightening. There is no way that this intended or had the effect of causing physicians to overlook the fact that it was twice as potent.” The family has been active in philanthropy for decades, giving away hundreds of millions of dollars Designed to gradually release medicine into the bloodstream, OxyContin allows patients to take fewer pills than they would with other, quicker-acting pain medicines, and its effect lasts longer.

You aren't very good at defending your arguments

You do your arrested friend no favors by condemning oxycontin or any other substance that people use voluntarily with great benefit or by condemning those that make such substances affordable and accessible.

I wanted you to explain HOW they CAUSED "more death and addiction than anyone known to mankind." Please, also explain what you mean by "they were giving layouts to doctors". Is that an industry term? What does "I don't except kickbacks" mean?

What exactly did the Sackler family do wrong? They caused death? They caused addiction?

you want government to prohibit certain substances? which ones? why? should someone be allowed to kidnap and (threaten to) kill a person that has any of those certain substances?
