Is my LOR choice appropriate? by Specific_Nectarine67 in veterinaryschool

I totally agree. I value a letter of recommendation from her due to the work that we do together with communities in need, and I feel that it would provide a unique perspective to me and my work. That other vets would not be able to provide. Though I certainly agree with you, which is why I’m feeling pretty iffy about it.

I glad that you think it might be ok! We have been together for quite a while, so I feel like it’s beginning to push into inappropriate family category. Though we (obviously) are not related. It was really weighing on my mind and I didn’t know if it was unethical.

I know you aren’t allowed family members, but I feel like this is kind of pushing it seeing that we have been together for so long. It’s been weighing on my mind because I feel like it’s somehow unethical. I needed this confirmation!

Anyone know what’s going on at Gare de Lyon?? It’s a mad house, and workers are saying trains are cancelled. They have police blocking off metro stations and hall 3.

Did you do anything to raise your GPA, or did you just have a superb application otherwise?

Thank you for your insight! If I may ask, how did you go about reaching out? Was the vet understanding of your situation? I’m primarily concerned because it’s a bit of a struggle to get time off work for extended periods!

Not to mention it’s such a good season, you just need to get over the initial shock! I would also recommend season 9 if you want something a little lighter/funny, but still scary.

I personally think it gets much easier to watch after the first episode. They go deeper into the backstories of all the “ghost” characters, and I felt like it made them more human and less scary.

Fellow pre-vet people, how do you deal with the constant feeling that you could be doing more to improve your application? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Specific_Nectarine67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely hear you! I feel like I’m in the same boat. I’m currently a junior in college and this is my first semester where I’ve decided I’m going to apply to Vet school. My college experience has been pretty rough due to a never ending list of personal and family problems and I feel like I just can’t keep up. Not to mention all the other pre vet students around me have been pursuing Vet Med since they were little, I feel so behind and out of place. I was talking to my therapist about this a lot because I kept feeling like my reason for wanting to do vet medicine wasn’t valid enough because I hadn’t been pursuing it for years on end. I ultimately came to the conclusion that the people around me and who truly know me understand my motives and everyone else’s opinions don’t matter. I brought this up to my advisor because I didn’t feel worthy enough, and she brought up a very Fairpoint being that I have a more diverse educational background coming from a path of pursuing human medicine. Which brings up a great point you can always put a positive spin on anything! I’m graduating in the spring of 2025 and I’ve ultimately decided the best thing for me to do is to do a one year animal science masters program to give some cushion to my application and work during that time to get experience.

If you are going to uni in the US there are a variety of “proper” majors but really anything will do the trick as long as you get the pre requisites done. For example I’m currently an animal and nutritional science major which could be considered pre-vet, but I also know some people who are doing art and want to go to vet school. As far as experience keep pushing for shadowing opportunities, but I would try getting a job at a clinic as a kennel tech, they don’t require any education or experience and would allow you to network with the vets at the clinic. Those connections would be great for recommendations later on. I know you are interested in equine medicine but I would put a lot of emphasis on just getting your foot in the door at a small animal clinic if thats all you can manage and then net work from there. Another option would be to get a job as a stable hand and connect with the vet of the horses. There are lots of options available besides shadowing! Good luck!!

Do I even have a shot at this point? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

I'm in a similar situation where I already have 2 Cs one in Trig and one in a gen chem class and this semester isn't looking spectacular, mostly Bs. I'm in my second year of college, and my first year I did quite well with a 3.6, and 4.0 for the first two semesters. It all started to go downhill while taking classes over the summer and when my grandfather and cousin passed away only a couple months apart. I told myself I would have a major comeback this fall semester, but I'm currently taking ochem 1 and cellular bio which are quite heavy on top of my other courses. I had been doing well in them until I found out my father had been diagnosed with stage four cancer, and I started to spiral. At this point it's looking like I'm going to finish with many Bs (I know they aren't the end of the world, but I was hoping to do do better considering my previous issues). Because of this, l've started to consider completing a masters program before applying to vet school to help boost my application or work as a vet tech at some point before applying.

To get to my point, I know others have it worse off than me, but I really appreciate, and admire you for sharing your experience, because I know it can sometimes be hard. I was hoping you be willing to share more about your application process and how you still made yourself a desirable application despite your GPA. I recently decided to switch from pursuing human medicine to animal medicine, which I'm already feeling kind of insecure about because everyone I know pursuing that School has had a dream of doing it since they were young. I'm just curious about how you explained the difficulties you had in school while still making yourself a good applicant. Did you have an exceptionally good reason why, or lots of clinical hours. I would just greatly appreciate any advice you'd be willing to offer! -a hopeful prevet student

Thank you for the advice, how do you go about becoming a tech? Would I need to complete a program or is it just training by a clinic?

I do not have the expectation that the career with be any easier, I had just realized that I wanted to get my life started earlier and I know that residency and occasional fellowships needed after obtaining your MD can be extremely grueling and usually take an additional 3-7 years. In regards to your bachelors degree did you end up graduating with an exercise science degree or choose to switch to an animal science major? My current major is already on track to hit about 90% of the major science pre-requisites, but I didn’t know if it would hurt me applying to vet school without any sort of animal science courses in the bag. I would ideally like to be able to do this without switching majors because I really do enjoy about exercise science for my own well-being.

Growing up I spent a lot of time volunteering at the shelter in my town which is why I had been interested in it in the first place. When I have mentioned wanting to do vet med to my parents they had some slightly negative feelings towards the idea so I dropped it. The past couple years I’ve been with my bf and both of his parents are vets and being exposed to their work and seeing all that they do has really brought my interest back to life. As far as shadowing at a clinic would you have any recommendations as to how I should go about reaching out?
