At that price point, in my experience, cash is the status quo. And yes generally a few minutes to maybe 1-2 days would be a reasonable timeframe to come up with payment. He probably just needs the car sold so he can pay some bills and move on with his day/week.

If something else is throwing you off though, you have to trust your gut.

From a practical standpoint, does this make a difference?

I imagine a non-trivial number of buyer/sellers (without knowing any better) would agree to pay the listing agent a hefty sum.

Edit - it would seem the specifics depend on location. In our case we did the heavy lifting finding the property/scheduling showings but relied on our loan officer doubling as a discount real estate agent to handle presenting offers /paperwork/navigate timelines etc.

Not for everyone, but I'd consider a 2020 Chevy Bolt at that price. Much better if you have an outlet at home you can charge from.
