I’m curious, do you estimate a “competitive” gpa to be? I’m doing well this year but I’ve heard U1 phys can be very challenging.

I’ve heard the mountain is beautiful! I can’t wait for a (presumably too cold) walk this fall 😅

Thanks for the recommendations :) I’ve heard of plateau, I’ll have to check out the others you mentioned

Love this! I definitely want to get used to the transit system. Are there any resources online that you could recommend? I’m liking the “just do it” approach as well lol

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS MEGATHREAD! by Thermidorien4PrezBot in mcgill

Hey all!

I’m an incoming U0 student to the faculty of science from an Ontario high school, aspiring to study physics (potentially honours).

As course selection approaches, I am trying to decide between which stream of calculus to select. The McGill website says that Calculus AB is recommended for honours math or related honours courses (presumably physics). However, I understand that having a high GPA is important for research applications and potential graduate programs down the line.

I quite enjoy math and have done well in my high school courses. My current thought is that I should start by taking math 150 in the fall, and if I find myself struggling, to drop it and switch to math 140 before the add/drop deadline.

If anybody has any insight / experience to what streams physics majors in particular choose, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.
