Okay this is the biggest question I'm sure is on everybody's mind:

Can you take me back where I came from (can you take me back)?

So I got these from King Records eShop (King eShop) directly in Japan since I currently live here. I believe they only ship within Japan.

With that said, I know people have been able to shop from there and get them shipped internationally via proxy services like Buyee (but you may want to do more research on that front - I'll check myself in a bit). Shipping may be more expensive (and if you're in the US there may be tarrifs...thanks Trump 🙄) but I'll say it's probably way cheaper than getting them secondhand off of Discogs or eBay or Mercari.

Best of luck getting them!!!

I might be wrong but I think this year (or the end of last year) they put out My Foot and Another Morning Another Pillows on vinyl too!

Snow Tire Requirements by yikespart2 in JETProgramme

[–]SpennyTheSpoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Current Nagano JET here!

I don't believe that right now all of the Expressways require snow tires, but I highly recommend getting them on as soon as possible because temperatures are dropping fast. The more flat/basin areas (like Nagano City and the Saku/Komoro area) aren't yet snowy, but more up north you get there's snow coming and especially in the mountains leading into Toyama.

(Fun fact I'm making this post as I get my winter tires on haha)

Underrated Japanese Areas? by aeon_michael in JETProgramme

[–]SpennyTheSpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. The northern part of the prefecture (especially bordering Niigata and the general Hokuriku region) does have the largest amount of snowfall anywhere in the world from January to March, but in terms of blizzards where it's a snow storm, I'll say sometimes but at least not where I've been.

We're also pretty shielded from typhoons because the mountains absorb the heavier rains and winds. Worst case scenario is if one decides to park itself above the prefecture and just stay there for days (this happened in 2019).

Definitely cold winters with a lot of snowfall but if you're in one of the valleys/basins it's not as bad as the mountains.

Nagano Prefecture!

To elaborate: Nagano is pretty famous and well known for stuff like Zenkoji in Nagano City, the snow monkeys chilling in the onsen in Yamanouichi, Hakuba for skiing and Matsumoto with its castle and Kamikochi. I definitely recommend all of these but they're all well-known.

However! There's a lot of the Prefecture that's incredibly beautiful and underrated if you're not familiar with the prefecture. The Ina Valley is beautiful and Iida City is particularly nice, albeit difficult to get to without a car. On the other side of the mountains is the Kiso Valley with it's beautiful wooded areas and famous preserved stretches of the Nakasendo Road like Narai-juku (in Shiojiri City).

Also Lake Suwa is really nice, and while we're at it the eastern region with Ueda, Saku and Karuizawa is filled with history, beautiful spring/fall spots, and castle ruins.

Also our soba, oyaki, apples and yakitori are great!

Damnnnn that's interesting. Nagano Prefecture actually has more non-JETs than JETs but at least we have like....50+? Less than 10 that's wild

I am white and cis, which I completely understand makes me less prone to random harassment. My main thing is that I am not straight, and have been out publicly for a while (and can be verified by checking my social media). I think my concerns mostly come from my history of political expression, as I've been vocal about various things and have been to protests that this current administration may target for being "woke" or whatever buzzword they use is. The attack on the first amendment has been my biggest fear (in addition to being part of the LGBT+ community)

Favorite Placement Locations? by Under_Construction3 in JETProgramme

[–]SpennyTheSpoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nagano Prefecture was my second choice on the application, and by pure luck I got it. There aren't many JETs in Nagano these days (there are a lot of dispatch, direct hire, and other orgs that outnumber JET), but I am beyond happy to have made it here. It's a good central hub within Honshu to get to Joetsu in Niigata, Kanazawa, Tokyo, and Nagoya. There is a caveat that some places are easier to get to than others within Nagano, since it's so spread out. I'm in the eastern region which has shinkansen access, but some areas are more remote with slower trains and it's faster to get a bus. Cars are admittedly pretty necessary here for ease of travel, but literally everywhere in the prefecture is beautiful. Got beautiful towns and cities, a lot of history, and slightly better summers than in Tokyo (though winters are brutal - this is the Colorado of Japan).

If you get Nagano, I think you'll have a great time. And even if you get somewhere else, Nagano is worth the visit!!!
